Bell shines as Mustangs spike Culver-Stockton

Maddie Bell rolled up 21 kills Tuesday night as the Mount Mercy  women's volleyball team defeated Culver-Stockton, 25-16, 24-26, 25-14,  25-19, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey  Recreation Center.

The Mustangs raised their records to 13-7 overall and 3-4 in the  conference. Culver-Stockton fell to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in the league.

Torie Alexander had eight kills for Mount Mercy, Olivia Makinen seven  and Mackenzie Murphy six. Kayla Daggett dished out 44 assists.

Lianto leads Mustang golfers to 2nd

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. - Roger Lianto and the Mount Mercy men's golf team  made a strong showing at the 2019 Porto Cima Invitational Tuesday in  Missouri.

Lianto finished second out of 59 golfers and helped the Mustangs place  second in the team standings in the 11-school event.

Lianto fired rounds of 73 and 73 for a two-day total of 2-over-par  146, just two shots behind Tyler Vaske of Grand View who finished at  even-par 144.

Philip Nelson of Mount Mercy tied for fourth at 5-over 149 and Kaleb  Hagge tied for sixth at 7-over 151.

Davidson takes 4th for Mustangs

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Valarie Davidson of Mount Mercy placed fourth out of  29 golfers at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate women's golf meet in  Council Bluffs Tuesday.

Davidson fired rounds of 85 and 78 for a 36-hole score of 19-over 163.  She finished just two shots out of second place.

The Mustangs placed second out of six schools in the team standings  behind Bellevue.

Natalea Cook and Allyson Wertz of Mount Mercy tied for seventh at 26-over 170.

Mount Mercy spikers trimmed by Graceland

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team was trimmed by Graceland in five sets, 3-2, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey Recreation Center Sunday.

Graceland won the first two sets, but the Mustangs dominated the third and fourth sets before falling short. The visitors prevailed 25-23, 25-18, 15-25, 16-25, 15-11.

Maddie Bell had 14 kills and six blocks for Mount Mercy. Olivia Makinen finished with nine kills and 15 digs. Kayla Daggett had 42 assists, 12 digs and four aces.

No. 1 NAIA team boots Mustangs

The Mount Mercy men's and women's soccer teams had a tough time  Saturday against Central Methodist, which has one of the premier NAIA soccer programs in the country.

The Central Methodist men, who are ranked No. 1 in the nation, blanked  the Mustangs 2-0 and allowed only one shot on goal.

The Central Methodist women, who are ranked No. 20, stuffed the  Mustangs 4-0 and did not allow a single shot on goal.

The Mount Mercy men fell to 6-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Heart of America Conference. Central Methodist raised its records to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the league.
