Houston powers No. 17 Mustangs by Waldorf

FOREST CITY - Alex Houston pumped in 28 points Wednesday night to help the 17th-ranked Mount Mercy Mustangs trip Waldorf, 81-74, in an NAIA men's basketball game in Forest City.

The victory avenged a loss to Waldorf earlier this season.

Tre Wagner scored 14 points and collected six assists for Mount Mercy (22-6). CJ Parker and Kyle Lamaak grabbed six rebounds.

The Mustangs helped themselves at the foul line by making 30 of 36 free throws.

Erik Brewer scored 20 points for Waldorf (15-12).

Lamaak powers Mustangs by Governors

Kyle Lamaak poured in 25 points Saturday as the 18th-ranked Mount Mercy Mustangs defeated Governors State, 101-89, in an NAIA basketball game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Lamaak, a Kennedy grad, made 11 of 13 shots from the field as the Mustangs raised their record to 21-6.

Tre Wagner scored 15 points for Mount Mercy. Ben Struss and Derik Gogg contributed 12 points apiece. Chris Ford added 10 points. Gogg made all six of his shots from the field.

Torrey Oliver scored 22 points for Governors State (6-20).

Mount Mercy women veto Governors

Abby Herb scored 19 points and snared nine rebounds Saturday as the Mount Mercy women's basketball team defeated Governors State, 87-64, in an NAIA game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Makenzie Zeitler had a big double-double for the Mustangs with 18 points and 14 rebounds. She also had four steals and two assists.

Alisa Weiland scored 13 points and Ashley Dolan added 12 points for Mount Mercy (15-12). The Mustangs made 60.3 percent of their shots from the field.

Governors State has lost all 27 of its games this season. Zaopria Smith led the Governors with 24 points.

Lloyd tosses shutout for Mount Mercy

EMERSON, Ga. - Adam Lloyd tossed a three-hit shutout Saturday as the Mount Mercy Mustangs blanked Shawnee State, 1-0, at the Perfect Game College Spring Swing event in Georgia.

Lloyd pitched a complete game, struck out three batters and did not walk anyone.

Cody Collender scored the game-winning run for the Mustangs in the top of the seventh inning on an error.

Cody Bell gave Mount Mercy a strong outing on the mound in a 5-4 victory over Bluefield in an earlier game Saturday. Bell pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs to get the win. Andrew Raymer got the final out for a save.

Tarran Beasley went 2-for-4 and had the game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh. Collender drove in two runs and Cody Williams scored twice.

Bell and Lloyd are Cedar Rapids Kennedy grads.

Mount Mercy compiled a 3-1 record on its trip to Georgia.

 

Lindstrom wins league title for Mustangs

CRETE, Neb. - James Lindstrom of Mount Mercy captured the mile run in 4 minutes, 26.79 seconds Saturday at the Heart of America Conference indoor track meet in Crete, Neb.

The Mount Mercy men received second-place showings from Evan Bowman in the 5000 (15:52.70), Jon Anderson in the 3000 race walk and Bowman in the 3000 (9:09.87). Colton Forster placed third in the 3000 (9:10.19).

Bri'anna Branch finished second in the 60 meter dash for the Mount Mercy women (7.96). The Mustangs placed second in the 4x800 relay (9:42.88) and Dana Ewan was third in the 5000 (18:18.14).

The Mount Mercy men finished seventh out of 13 teams in the standings. The Mount Mercy women finished fifth out of 13 teams.
