Monson loses Grinnell golf in playoff

GRINNELL - Demi Coertze of William Penn defeated Meg Monson of Mount Mercy in a two-hole playoff for top honors at the Grinnell Invitational Sunday at the Grinnell Country Club.

Coertze and Monson tied for the 18-hole lead at 4-over-par 76 before settling the title in the playoff.

Grinnell College nipped William Penn for the team championship, 324-325.

Monson wins title at Luther golf meet

DECORAH - Meg Monson of Mount Mercy University captured top honors at the Luther Invitational Saturday at the Oneota Golf and Country Club in Decorah.

Monson finished with a 36-hole performance of 16-over-par 160 with rounds of 79 and 81 on the 5,806-yard course.

Luther College won the meet. Mount Mercy tied Loras for third. Coe finished fifth and last.

Mount Mercy spikes Calumet

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team raised its record to 15-7 Saturday with a 25-23, 25-14, 25-14 victory over Calumet St. Joseph at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Cori Peterzalek and Olivia Coe led the Mustangs with 11 kills. Abbie Perez collected 21 assists and Hannah Whitley had 12.

Lauren Stopko contributed 14 digs and Becca Thomson had 11 for Mount Mercy.

Calumet fell to 3-13.

   

Mount Mercy sweeps volleyball match

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team raised its record to 14-7 Thursday night by sweeping Culver-Stockton, 25-14, 26-24, 25-20, at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Olivia Coe led the Mustangs with 15 kills. Cori Peterzalek contributed 12 digs and nine kills.

Becca Thomson collected 18 digs and seven kills. Leslie Hoffmann also had seven kills. Abbie Perez finished with 23 assists and Hannah Whitley had 13 assists.

 

Long wins title for Mount Mercy golfers

OGLESBY, Ill. - George Long of Mount Mercy topped a field of 93 golfers at the Deer Park Classic Tuesday with three straight sensational rounds at the Deer Park Country Club in Oglesby, Ill.

Long fired rounds of 69, 64 and 69 for a 54-hole score of 11-under-par 202. He edged Kaleb Gorbahn of Holy Cross by one shot.

The 20th-ranked Mustangs tied for third in a 17-team field that included five of the top NAIA teams in the country. Cardinal Stritch won the title at 14-under 836.

Lindenwood-Belleville placed second at 846 with Mount Mercy a stroke back at 847, tied with Indian Hills Community College.
