CHICAGO – Abby Herb had 35 points and three blocks to lead the Mount Mercy women’s basketball team in a 77-74 overtime win over St. Francis (Illinois) in the first round of the Roosevelt Holiday Hoops Tournament on Friday at the Lillian and Larry Goodman Center.
Herb shot 14-of-18 from the field, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, for the Mustangs (7-7). Christa Oldham had 15 points and five assists, and Makenzie Zeitler had 11 rebounds.
After finishing regulation tied 65-65, Mount Mercy took a 12-9 edge in the overtime period.
Katie Gonnering had 28 points for St. Francis, which fell to 3-11.
The Mustangs will play in the championship game of the tournament today.
