Dighton scores 16 as Jeff girls win

Kennedy Dighton had 16 points and eight rebounds as the Jefferson girls basketball team clamped down on Davenport Central for a 62-24 win Tuesday at Jefferson.

Kylie Wise had 12 points and Mariah Robinson had eight rebounds for the J-Hawks (6-8).

No player scored more than four points for Davenport Central (1-13).

Kuehl lifts Jeff matmen to title

Dalton Kuehl saved the day for the Jefferson wrestling team Saturday.

Kuehl pinned Tyler Clark of Clinton in 1:58 in the championship match at 285 pounds, lifting the J-Hawks to the team championship of their own tournament.

The J-Hawks nudged Alburnett, 212.5 to 210, in the team standings.

Kuehl breezed through the competition with four straight pins in 47 seconds, 1:18, 2:26 and 1:58.

Brenden Baker captured the 113-pound title for Jefferson and was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Baker pinned Triston Lara of Fort Dodge in 4:28 in the championship round.

Kyle Briggs (132), Matt Culver (145), Luke Sedlacek (160) and Kelly May (182) placed second for the J-Hawks. Joseph Sibomana (120) and Tavian Rashed (152) finished third.

Manning scores 17 as Cougar boys top J-Hawks

Brendon Mannig had 17 points as the Kennedy boys basketball team ripped Jefferson 74-43 Friday at Jefferson.

Zach Daniels had 15 points for the Cougars (8-3), and Bryton Heisler added 14 points.

Trey McCauley had 10 points for the J-Hawks (1-10).

Hayden, Botkin lead Kennedy girls

Sydney Hayden had 16 points and Stephanie Botkin had 15 to lead the Kennedy girls basketball team to a 68-34 win over Jefferson on Friday at Jefferson.

Katelynn Dye added nine points and Abby Hellweg had eight points for the Cougars (10-4).

Kennedy Dighton had 15 points to lead the J-Hawks (5-8).

DUBUQUE – Rylea Bennett had a 254 game and a 438 series to lead the Jefferson girls bowling team to a 2,537 to 2,410 Friday at Cherry Lanes.

DUBUQUE – Victor Baccam had a 441 series and Noah Tiedtke had a 258 game to lead the Jefferson boys bowling team to a 3,033 to 2,760 win over Dubuque Senior on Friday at Cherry Lanes.

Jeff swimmers dunk Waterloo West

WATERLOO - The Jefferson J-Hawks won 10 of 11 events Thursday and dunked Waterloo West, 106-64, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys swimming meet in Waterloo.

Nate Homan, Paul Hummell and Noah Hoogestraat participated in four victories for Jefferson.

Homan claimed the 200 free and 100 back. Paul Hummell won the 100 free and 100 breaststroke. Hoogestraat captured the 200 IM and 100 fly. All three of them swam on two victorious relays.

Luke Hummell was a triple-winner for Jefferson.

Lembeck, Gerke keep shining for Saints

It's been a tough season for the Xavier wrestling team with only 16 guys on the squad, but Clint Lembeck and Josh Gerke keep plugging away and doing a good job for the Saints.

Lembeck and Gerke struck again Thursday with pins against the Jefferson J-Hawks, but the Saints had to forfeit four bouts and lost the Mississippi Valley Conference meet 51-21.

Lembeck, ranked No. 2 at 132 pounds, wrestled up a class and stuck Michael Handley at 138 in 1:39. Gerke, ranked No. 6 at 126 pounds, pinned Seth Jellison in 4:46.

Jeff Vipond collected a pin at 106 pounds for the Saints and Thomas Pudil won a 4-0 decision at 220, giving Xavier four victories in 10 actual bouts against a strong opponent.

Jefferson boys dunked by Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls set the tone early with tough defense and the Tigers went on to rout Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 64-34, in Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball action Tuesday at Jefferson.

Cedar Falls (7-2, 4-2) jumped in front 15-5 after one period and gradually stretched its lead the rest of the way. Keeon Johnson paced the Tigers with 22 points.

Adam Van Oort scored 11 points for Jefferson (1-9, 0-6).

Slow start dooms Jefferson girls

CEDAR FALLS – The Jefferson girls basketball team trailed 19-2 after the first quarter and couldn’t recover in a 53-31 loss to sixth-ranked Cedar Falls on Tuesday.

Kylie Wise had 14 points to lead the J-Hawks (5-7). Kiana Barney and Adirenne Boettger each had 11 points for the Tigers (10-3).
