Lions, Cougars drop spot in soccer poll

Linn-Mar and Kennedy fell one spot in the new boys soccer rankings released Monday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Linn-Mar fell from No. 4 to No. 5 in Class 3A and Kennedy dropped from No. 10 to No. 11. Prairie stayed in the seventh spot in the rankings.

The Xavier Saints remained No. 2 in Class 2A.

Kennedy tops Jeff in boys tennis

Rami Hemaidan defeated Alex Tvedte, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles Friday as Kennedy topped Jefferson 7-2 in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Jefferson.

Corey Duncan, Kyle Butler, Matt Ramundo, Connor Crippes and Zach Amsler also won their singles matches for the Cougars.

Kennedy girls jump to 3rd in soccer poll

The Kennedy Cougars climbed two spots to No. 3 in the Class 3A girls soccer rankings Friday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Xavier Saints stayed in the No. 5 spot in the Class 2A poll.

Iowa City West is the top-ranked team in Class 3A. Ankeny tops the Class 2A rankings.

Lions crown 6 champs, finish second

The Linn-Mar boys track team won six events and finished second in the team race Thursday night at the MVC Valley Division meet at Kingston Stadium.

Cedar Falls won the team title with 146 points, 20 better than the Lions. Kennedy was third with 100 points.

Kennedy’s Dalles Jacobus shared divisional athlete of the year honors with Cedar Falls’ Sam Schilling. Jacobus won the shot put and discus titles.

Linn-Mar got individual wins from Perrion Scott in the 100-meter dash, Dalton Gosch in the 400, Daniel Gorsich in the 110 hurdles and Nick House in the 400 hurdles. The Lions got relay wins in the shuttle hurdle and sprint medley.

Kennedy’s other winner was Willie Rhoads in the high jump.

Jefferson took top honors in the 4x200 relay.

Kennedy girls top Xavier in SO

Kennedy outscored Xavier, 3-2, in a shootout to gain a 2-1 victory on Thursday night at Kennedy.

Addy Hoffman gave Xavier a 1-0 lead early in the second half on an assist from Sydney Wright. Kennedy tied the match in the 68th minute on a score by Alyssa Drewelow. Olivia Hellweg had the assist.

Kennedy kept up the pressure at the end of regulation, but was unable to get the winning goal. Olivia Weigel had two saves in the shootout for the Cougars.

   

No.6 Cougars boot Waterloo West, 10-0

Sydney Hayden and Kasey Dekko scored twice Tuesday as the sixth-ranked Kennedy girls soccer team crushed Waterloo West, 10-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game that was held at Coe College.

Emily Sass, Alyssa Drewelow, Linden Runels, Morgan Petsche, Olivia Hellweg and Olivia Weigel also tallied goals for the Cougars.

Hayden and Drewelow had two assists. Sass, Alissa Waterhouse, Hellweg and Weigel also had assists.

Kennedy led at halftime, 9-0.

 

Kennedy blanked by No. 7 Cedar Falls

The Kennedy boys tennis team was defeated by seventh-ranked Cedar Falls, 6-0, Monday in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet that was curtailed due to inclement weather.

Veneel Mallavarapu of Cedar Falls trimmed Rami Hemaidan, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.

Hargens tops Metro golfers at MVC meet

DUBUQUE - Sierra Hargens of Kennedy shot a 14-over-par 86 Monday to lead all the Metro golfers at the Mississippi Valley Conference golf super meet at The Meadows in Dubuque.

Hargens tied for eighth in the individual standings.

Maddie Hawkins of Dubuque Senior fired a 3-over 75 to claim medalist honors. Cedar Falls won the team championship by three strokes over Dubuque Hempstead.

Kennedy placed fifth in the team standings. Prairie was eighth, Linn-Mar ninth, Washington 10th, Xavier 11th and Jefferson 13th.

Hempstead nips No. 8 Kennedy in OT

DUBUQUE - Host Hempstead scored four minutes into overtime to upset No. 8 Kennedy, 2-1, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match.

The Mustangs scored in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Kennedy tied the game in the 72nd minute on a goal from Skylar Showalter.

Kennedy is now 5-5, 3-4 in the MVC.

   

Walker leads No.8 Cougars by Rams

Ryan Walker fired in two goals Thursday night as the eighth-ranked Kennedy Cougars blanked Dubuque Senior, 4-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Kennedy.

Sam Hamzelka and Nick Newcamp also scored for Kennedy. Newcamp connected on a penalty kick.

Sammy Jung, Andrew Sheeley and Alex Stone collected assists. Kennedy raised its records to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

All of the scoring took place in the first half.
