Wiedemeier leads Kennedy by IC West

IOWA CITY - Alyssa Wiedemeier rolled a 231 game and 410 series Friday as the Kennedy girls bowling team trimmed Iowa City West, 2058-2017, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Colonial Lanes.

Jill Zaiser had a 204 game for the Cougars (3-5). Brooke Kreiss had a 341 series for Iowa City West (2-6).

KENNEDY: Abbie Haller 130-167 = 297, Jill Zaiser 105-204 = 309, Jamie Milota 180-155 = 335, Katie Slota 116-141 = 257, Kayla Sickles 133-149 = 282, Alyssa Wiedemeier 231-179 = 410.

Jacobus, Sarasin lead Kennedy grapplers

Dalles Jacobus and Ben Sarasin won both of their matches Thursday night as the Kennedy wrestling team split a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at home.

The Cougars trimmed Wahlert, 33-31, and lost to Iowa City West, 48-19.

Jacobus collected a pin and 3-1 decision at 220 pounds. Sarasin had a pin and major decision at 138. Logen Rodriguez also went 2-0 for Kennedy with a pin and forfeit.

Kennedy boys tumble at Johnston

JOHNSTON - The Kennedy boys basketball team lost to Johnston, 77-64,  in a non-conference game in Johnston Tuesday night.

Zach Daniels led the Cougars (8-4) with 22 points. Bryton Heisler scored 13 points for Kennedy and Drake Brewster added 11.

Kennedy swimmers earn 2 wins

Stefan Kitsos ad Brennan Urbi each won two events as the Kennedy boys swimming team earned a pair of victories Tuesday at Kennedy.

The Cougars beat Waterloo East, 135-27, and topped Iowa City High, 112-57.

Kitsos won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 6.85 seconds) and captured the 100 breaststroke (1:01.95) for Kennedy. Urbi won the 50 freestyle (22.37) and 100 backstroke (55.55).

Evan Bednar took the 100 freestyle (52.68), Clark Montover won the 500 freestyle (5:24.53) and the Cougars won the 200 medley (1:44.01), 200 freestyle (1:37.17) and 400 freestyle (3:27.19) relays.

Botkin wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Kennedy senior Stephanie Botkin is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Botkin, a 6-foot senior, is one of the top basketball players in the Metro area. She has played for the Kennedy varsity since she was a freshman and has amassed 913 points and 494 rebounds in her career, giving her a chance to join the 1,000/500 club before the season is over.

Botkin is averaging 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds this season, the best marks of her career. She has enjoyed games of 27 points against Waterloo West, 25 against Prairie, 21 against Waukee and 20 against Fairfield. She grabbed 12 rebounds against Fairfield and Ames, giving her double-doubles in both games.

Kitsos leads Kennedy swimmers to 2nd

PLEASANT HILL – Stefan Kitsos won the 100 yard breaststroke to lead the Kennedy boys swimming to second place at the Southeast Polk Invitational on Saturday.

Kitsos won the breaststroke in 1 minute, 2.42 seconds and also finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:05.4. Cade Schoenauer was third in the 100 butterfly. Kennedy was third in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

The Cougars scored 246 points. Waukee won with 449.

1. Waukee 449; 2. Kennedy 246; 3. Indianola 189; 4. Boone 187; 5. Des Moines East 83; 6. Des Moines Hoover 80; 7. Southeast Polk 40; 8. Grinnell 28.

   

Wenger powers Prairie to Geneseo title

GENESEO, Ill. – Josh Wenger broke the Prairie wrestling team’s all-time record for wins and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the lightweights to lead the Prairie Hawks to a first-place finish Saturday at the Geneseo Invitational.

Prairie scored 186½ points to win the 18-team tournament by 31 points. Kennedy was seventh with 114.

Wenger won the 138-pound title for Prairie and now has 152 wins in his career. Sam Uthoff won the 126 title for his 100th career win.

No.2 Waukee stops Kennnedy girls

The second-ranked Waukee girls basketball team couldn’t be caught and the 10th-ranked Kennedy Cougars lost, 60-51, Saturday at Kennedy.

Stephanie Botkin had 21 points for the Cougars (10-5) and Hailey Dolphin added 11 points.

Reilly Jacobson had 24 points for Waukee (11-1) and Anna Kollmorgen had 14 points.

WAUKEE (60): Deskin 1 0-0 3, Coleman 2 0-0 5, Jacobson 8 8-11 24, Mataloni 0 1-2 1, Corbett 0 0-0 0, Littlefield 4 0-0 9, Kollmorgen 4 6-9 14, Cavanaugh 1 1-2 4. Totals 19 16-24 60.

Blood leads Prairie girls bowlers over Kennedy

Rylee Blood had a 257 game and a 417 series to lead the Prairie girls bowling team to a 2,704 to 2,359 win over Kennedy on Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Jamie Milota had a 329 series and Kayla Sickles had a 328 to lead the Cougars.

Prairie (2,704): Rylee Blood 257-160=417, Rile Hanson 225-179=404, Mikayka Hite 178-188=366, Emily Hartgrave 162-203=365, Sabrina Keiper 157-154=311, Samantha Keiper 142-143=285.
