Prairie grapplers win Independence title

INDEPENDENCE - Cedar Rapids Prairie crowned three champions and captured top honors at the Independence wrestling tournament Saturday.

Marcus England, Sam Uthoff and Taylor Mehmen came home with titles for the Hawks.

England pinned Kyle Prewitt of Christian Brothers College in 1:46 for the crown at 113 pounds. Uthoff pinned Chase Lienhard of Crestwood in 3:20 for the championship at 132 pounds. Mehmen trimmed Matt McMillan of Independence, 9-7, in overtime for the title at 195.

Clint Lembeck of Xavier won the 138-pound title with a 10-4 victory over Drew Davis of Independence in the finals.

Johnny Clymer of Linn-Mar won the 145-pound crown with a 4-3 victory over Josh Gerke of Xavier.

Prairie claimed the team championship with 223.5 points. Crestwood finished second with 159 points. Linn-Mar placed sixth and Xavier finished seventh out of 12 squads.

Bohannon leads Lions by Bettendorf

BETTENDORF - Jordan Bohannon popped in four 3-pointers and scored 20 points Saturday as the Linn-Mar Lions topped Bettendorf, 64-52, in a non-conference basketball game in Bettendorf.

Beau Klostermann contributed 17 points for the Lions (1-1). Riley Murphy also hit four 3-pointers and scored 13 points for Linn-Mar.

The Lions made eleven 3-pointers in the game.

J. Michael Young led Bettendorf (1-1) with 13 points.

Jenks runs 25th at Nike national meet

PORTLAND, Ore. - Linn-Mar senior Stephanie Jenks finished 25th at the Nike Cross Nationals race at the Glendoveer Golf Course Saturday in Portland, Ore.

Jenks was in third place after the first mile and was 10th after two miles, but she dropped back after that and finished the 5K race in 17 minutes, 44.5 seconds.

Katie Rainsberger won the national title in 16:56.

   

Linn-Mar girls trimmed by IC High

IOWA CITY - The Linn-Mar girls bowling team was edged by Iowa City High, 2479-2428, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet Friday at Colonial Lanes.

Mekena Diercks led Linn-Mar with a 201 game and 389 series. She had the high series in the meet.

Liz Goss rolled a 215 game for the Little Hawks.

Ollinger sparks Lions by Wahawks

WATERLOO – Amanda Ollinger had 16 points, nine rebounds and five steals to lead the 10th-ranked Linn-Mar girls basketball team to a 46-29 win over Waterloo West on Friday.

Kamryn Finley made four 3-poniters and scored 14 points for the Lions. Alie Akers added nine points.

Linn-Mar (3-0) led just 18-15 at halftime, but pulled away with an 18-4 run in the third quarter.

Mackenzie Wehr had nine points for the Wahawks (1-3).
