Jenks runs 10th at Foot Locker regional

KENOSHA, Wis. - Stephanie Jenks of Linn-Mar finished 10th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional cross country meet Saturday in Kenosha, Wis., and earned a trip to the national meet in two weeks.

Jenks covered the 5K course in 17 minutes, 49.2 seconds. Taylor Werner of Bloomsdale, Mo., ran away with the title in 16 minutes, 57.3 seconds.

Runners from 13 states competed in the regional meet with athletes from Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Jenks qualified for the Foot Locker national meet in San Diego on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Jenks also has qualified for the Nike Cross National meet that will be held in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, Dec. 5. She won the Nike Cross Heartland regional Nov. 15 in South Dakota.

Jenks has committed to run in college at Cal-Berkeley.

 

Lions get boost from Jared Printy

The Bohannon and Printy families have accomplished great things in the Linn-Mar basketball program over the years with state titles, scoring records and plenty of excitement.

Now there's a member of each family on the Linn-Mar boys basketball team as the Lions prepare for another campaign.

Jordan Bohannon has started for the Lions ever since he was a freshman and enters his final season with 998 career points and a scholarship to Iowa tucked away in his back pocket. Jared Printy played at Cedar Rapids Washington the past few years and transferred to Linn-Mar for his final season of high school basketball before heading off to Western Michigan.

Fluent, Sade top all-state volleyball

Anna Fluent of Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Isabella Sade of Marion have been named to the top units on the all-state volleyball teams by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Fluent was named first team all-state in Class 5A and Sade was named first team all-state in Class 4A. Both players helped their teams reach the state tournament this season.

Kate Busswitz of Prairie and Amanda Ollinger of Linn-Mar were named second team all-state in Class 5A. Macy Anderson and Brinley Milbrath of Kennedy received honorable mention.

Olivia Frazier of Marion was named second team all-state in Class 4A.

Caitlyn Smith of Marion received honorable mention.

   

Ollinger pours in 30 for Linn-Mar

Amanda Ollinger poured in 30 points, grabbed six rebounds and made four steals as the Linn-Mar girls basketball team opened the season with a 67-29 win over Waterloo East on Tuesday at Linn-Mar.

Kamryn Finley added 12 points for the Lions, who are ranked No. 10 in Class 5A.

Kerris Roberts had 16 points for the Trojans.

Linn-Mar boys bowl over Hawks

Alex Diercks finished with a 419 to lead a balanced effort for Linn-Mar as the Lions defeated Prairie, 2,814-2,330, in the boys bowling opener for both teams Monday at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Shawn Wille led the way for the Hawks with a 391.

PRAIRIE: Shawn Wille 229+162=391, Matt Galloro 159+201=360, Brendan Poock 129+155=284, Max Rowland 65+167=232, David Boman 135+96=231.
