Beth Knapp and Michalyn Mohr delivered back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth inning of the nightcap that carried Marion to a 3-2 win and a split of its Wamac Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday night at home against Vinton-Shellsburg.
Vinton-Shellsburg won the opener, 4-2, despite three hits by Marion's Lauren Rausch.
Mohr had tied the nightcap, 1-1, with her solo home run in the second inning.
Knapp's single broke the tie and Mohr plated an insurance run with her single.
That run proved huge in the seventh when the Vikettes struck back for one run and had the bases loaded with two outs. Kathleen Steffen, who had hit a home run in the opener, flied out to left to end the game.
Marion is 7-9 overall and 3-6 in the Wamac.
