Jones lifts Marion girls in OT

Holli Jones scored in overtime Tuesday to give the Marion Indians a 3-2 victory over Vinton-Shellsburg in a Wamac Conference soccer match in Marion.

Liz Banning fired in the first two goals for the Indians. Saige Trca and Maddie Bach had assists in regulation. Sheala Rael collected an assist on the game-winning goal with a corner kick.

Tessa Jordan had nine saves in goal.

 

Marion boys boot Vinton-Shellsburg

VINTON - Enoch Duval fired in two goals Tuesday as the Marion Indians strolled by Vinton-Shellsburg, 6-0, in a Wamac Conference soccer match in Vinton.

Ryan Whalen, Tyler Lumbard, Matthew Schuttloffel and Justin Thompson also scored for Marion.

Gabe Groothuis collected three assists for the Indians. Noah Walter also had an assist.

 

Marion golfers share Wamac boys title

TAMA - The Marion Indians tied Williamsburg for the Wamac Conference West Division boys golf title Monday at the Tama-Toledo Country Club.

Both clubs finished the nine-hole event at 157.

Ian Kelly of Marion was the medalist with a 35.

1. (tie) Marion 157, Williamsburg 157, 3. Benton Community 166, 4. Independence 169, 5. Vinton-Shellsburg 170, 6. Clear Creek Amana 172, 7. Center Point-Urbana 175, 8. South Tama 175.

Cook wins long jump at Marion Relays

Skylar Cook of Marion High School captured the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 1/4 inch at the Marion Relays Monday at Thomas Park.

Western Dubuque won the team championship with 98.5 points. Marion finished fourth out of 13 teams.

Colton Forster of Marion finished second in the 3200 meter run in 9:46.38. The Indians also finished second in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:00.44.

Marion placed third in the 4x200 relay in 1:33.77.

Marion nets 3 titles at Wamac tennis

MAQUOKETA - Caleb Scott of Marion High School won the No. 1 singles title at the Wamac Conference boys tennis tournament Monday in Maquoketa.

Nate Meister of Marion captured the title at No. 2 singles and Maverick Miller was crowned the champion at No. 4 singles.

Western Dubuque edged Marion for the team championship, 41-39.

Peter Ward, Seth Tuetken and Trevor Gamerdinger garnered second-place finishes for the Indians in singles. All three Marion doubles teams placed second as well.
