Manderscheid leads Marion by Oelwein

OELWEIN - Jacob Manderscheid scored 14 points Thursday night and Deshaun Quinn had 10 as the Marion Indians topped Oelwein, 45-32, in a boys basketball game in Oelwein.

Craig Engle, Marion's leading scorer, did not play for the Indians due to a bad ankle. Marion raised its record to 14-6.

Austin Arndt and DuQuan Schumacher scored eight points apiece for Oelwein, which dropped its 13th straight game and fell to 2-18.

Marion boys survive CPU in OT

The Marion boys basketball team escaped a scare from Center Point-Urbana, beating the Stormin’ Pointers 68-63 in overtime Tuesday at Marion.

The Indians led 52-45 entering the fourth quarter, but Center Point-Urbana rallied to tie the score at 60-60 at the end of regulation.

CPU girls trim Marion for title

CENTER POINT - Arika Wooldridge scored 24 points as the Center Point-Urbana girls basketball team trimmed Class 4A 13th-ranked Marion, 51-46, Tuesday to win the West Division title in the Wamac Conference.

Center Point-Urbana finished 13-1 in the division and Marion finished 11-3.

The Stormin’ Points (17-4) led 26-16 at halftime. The Indians fought back to tie the score at 46-46 with a minute to play, but Center Point-Urbana scored the last five points for the victory.

Chloe Rice scored 16 points and Mia Laube added 12 points for Marion (16-5).

Amanda Sahm wins Metro Spotlight Award

Amanda Sahm of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Sahm, a 5-foot-7 senior, is a key member of the Marion High School girls basketball team that is ranked 13th in Class 4A with a 16-4 overall record.

She has scored in double figures 12 times this season with 20 points against Prairie, 19 against Clear Creek-Amana, 16 against Linn-Mar, 16 against Center Point-Urbana and 15 against DeWitt Central.

Sahm had an impressive outing in a victory against Clear Creek-Amana Jan. 30 with 19 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two seals and two blocks. She had another double-double against Linn-Mar with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Mohr paces No.13 Marion girls

Michalyn Mohr scored 16 points to lead the Class 4A No. 13 Marion girls basketball team to a 58-34 win over Williamsburg on Friday at Marion.

The Indians (16-4) led 19-5 after the first quarter and never looked back. Chloe Rice, Caitlyn Smith and Amanda Sahm each added 10 points.

Julie Hollensbe led the Raiders (3-18) with 13 points.
