Marion girls pummel Vinton-Shellsburg

Four players scored in double digits as the Class 4A No. 15 Marion girls basketball team swamped Vinton-Shellsburg, 69-34, Tuesday at Marion.

Chloe Rice led the Indians (13-4) with 17 points. Caitlyn Smith and Michalyn Mohr each scored 14 points and Mia Laube chipped in 10.

Maci Griffith had 12 points for the Vikings (2-15).

Marion boys sink Vinton-Shellsburg

VINTON – Jacob Mandersheid scored 16 points and Craig Engle added 10 as the Marion boys basketball team clobbered Vinton-Shellsburg Tuesday, 53-38, in Vinton.

The Indians (11-3) pulled away with an 11-4 run in the second quarter.

Austin Bonsack led Vinton-Shellsburg (2-13) with 13 points.

Conway wins at 145 for Marion

BLUE VALLEY, Kan. – Caleb Conway won the 145-pound title to lead the Marion wrestling team to a ninth-place finish with 104 points at the Blue Valley Invitational Saturday in Kansas.

Blue Valley Northwest won with 228 points.

Conway (29-5) won a 6-1 decision over Evan Pardue of Olathe Northwest for the title at 145.

Kyle Van Meter took third place at 285 for the Indians, Colin Conway was fourth at 152, Dalton Gardner was fifth at 182 and Zach Cochran was ninth at 106.

Marion boys notch 10th victory

Craig Engle scored 14 points and Jacob Manderscheid added 10 Friday night as the Marion Indians stopped South Tama, 56-40, in a Wamac Conference basketball game at Marion.

The Indians raised their record to 10-3.

Darius Lasley scored 10 points for South Tama (4-10).

No. 15 Indians knock off Tama

TAMA - Freshman Chloe Rice poured in 27 points Friday as the Marion Indians celebrated their climb into the state rankings with a 66-44 conquest of South Tama in a Wamac Conference game on the road.

Marion jumped into the 15th spot in Class 4A this week.

Caitlyn Smith hit three 3-pointers and contributed 13 points for Marion (12-4).

Tieranny Keahna scored 13 points for South Tama (5-10).
