Marion wrestlers split Wamac meets

VINTON - The Marion High School wrestling team split a pair of Wamac Conference meets in Vinton Thursday night.

The Indians defeated Maquoketa (43-31) and lost to Solon (68-12).

Ian Kelly pinned Jaden Owen of Solon in their 113-pound match. Dalton Gardner (195), Kyle Van Meter (285), Zach Cochran (106), Trevon Hernandez (126) and Alex Gillaspie (138) had pins against Maquoketa.

Marion keglers trimmed by Maquoketa

The Marion High School boys bowling team was defeated by Maquoketa, 3255-3075, in a Wamac Conference meet at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center Thursday.

Brandan Bradley led Marion with a 246 game and 449 series. Zach Prucha was right behind with a 447 series for the Indians.

Dalton Wauge of Maquoketa captured top honors with a 453 series. Conner Schnoor rolled a 268 game for the winners.

MARION: Nate Meister 180-157 = 337, Dylan Nash 181 - 175 = 356, Zach Prucha 224-223 = 447, Dakota Timmerman 152-186 = 338, Brandan Bradley 246-203 = 449, Nick Wheeler 228-214 = 442.

MAQUOKETA: Luke Brame 184-225 = 409, Thomas Clark 216-224 = 440, Dalton Waugh 227-226 = 453, Zach Lanning 205-204 = 409, Conner Schnoor 167-268 = 435, Isaac Andreson 211-235 = 446.

 

Marion girls edged in bowling

The Marion High School girls bowling team was trimmed by Maquoketa, 2238-2195, in a Wamac Conference meet at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center Thursday.

Bre Smith of Marion captured top honors with a 194 game and 365 series.

MARION: Alexis Smith 146-149 = 295, Alyssa Rose 95-117 = 212, Aleann Romo 166-149 = 315, Ashley Ohl 139-125 = 264, Bre Smith 171-194 = 365.

MAQUOKETA: Skyler Mangier  142-149 = 291, Diana Budde 129-160 = 289, Montana Muscle 108-85 = 193, Kelsey Dodds 133-167 = 300, Erica Paulson 150-169 = 319, Elly Fieker 149-134 = 283.

Marion: 1451 + 744 = 2195 
Maquoketa: 1482 + 756 = 2238

   

Marion girls pop into rankings at 15th

The Marion High School girls basketball team has climbed into the Class 4A rankings for the first time this season at 15th, the IGHSAU announced Thursday.

The Indians have compiled an 11-4 record so far and are contending for a Wamac Conference title.

The Xavier Saints (10-5) dropped one spot in the Class 4A rankings to No. 10.

The Linn-Mar Lions had a tough week and dropped out of the Class 5A rankings. Kennedy (10-5) remained 10th in the 5A poll.

Laube scores 21 as Marion girls win

Mia Laube had 21 points to lead the Marion girls basketball team to a 48-41 win over Benton Community on Tuesday in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

It was a close game, with the Indians building their biggest lead in the final minute.

Amanda Sahm had 13 points for Marion (11-4) and Caitlyn Smith added 10 points.

Gabi Kuster had 13 points to lead the Bobcats (7-8).

BENTON COMMUNITY (41): Gallagher 1 0-0 2, Kuester 3 7-9 13, Schmidt 0 0-0 0, Schallau 0 1-2 1, Wiebel 3 2-3 9, Brunssen 1 4-6 6, Parizek 3 0-0 6, Heilman 2 0-0 4. Totals 13 14-20 41.
