Engle’s 16 points lead Marion boys

VAN HORNE – Craig Engle had 16 points as the Marion boys basketball team improved to 9-3 with a 47-38 win over Benton Community in a Wamac Conference game in Van Horne Tuesday night.

Derek Smith added 10 points for the Indians, who are 5-2 in the conference.

Tucker Schroeder had 19 points for the Bobcats (4-10) and Tyler Eggert had 12 points.

MARION (47): Fish 1 4-4 6, Engle 7 0-2 16, Manderscheid 3 1-2 7, Alberts 1 0-0 2, Devin Quinn 3 0-0 6, Smith 4 1-2 10, Deshaun Quinn 0 0-0 0, Williams 0 0-0 0. Totals 19 6-11 47.

Caleb Conway leads Marion at own meet

Caleb Conway won the 145-pound title to lead the Marion wrestling team to seventh place in its own Lloyd Shaffer Invitational on Saturday at Marion.

Clint Lembeck was first at 138 to lead Xavier, which was eighth with 85 points.

Conway pinned Zach Keppy of Wilton in 4:30 in the 145 final to lead the Indians. Colin Conway was second at 152, losing in a fall in 5:34 to Garret Jay of Grinnell.

Lembeck beat Troy Brisker of Wilton, 6-4, for the 138 title for the Saints. Jeff Vipond was second at 106, losing a 3-0 decision to Brock Henderson of North Linn.

Williamsburg edged Grinnell for the title, 152-151.

Marion leads early in loss to CPU

The Marion girls basketball team led 18-8 after the first quarter, but lost 48-43 to Center Point-Urbana on Friday at Marion.

Amanda Sahm had 16 points for the Indians (10-4), and Chloe Rice added 14 points.

Allie Wooldridge had 18 points for the Stormin’ Pointers (10-4) and Arika Wooldridge had 14.

CENTER POINT-URBANA (48): Chandler 0 0-0 0, Dufoe 0 0-0 0, Allie Wooldridge 7 4-7 18, Hasleiet 0 2-4 2, Sisk 0 0-0 0, Brecht 2 1-1 7, Arika Wooldridge 6 2-4 14, Boevers 2 2-2 7. Totals 17 11-18 48.

Marion girls lose close meet at Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA – The Marion girls bowling team narrowly lost to Maquoketa 2,295 to 2,269 Friday at Timber Lanes.

Bre Smith had a 216 game and a 415 series for the Indians.

Kelsey Dodds led Maquoketa with a 364 series.

Maquoketa (2,295): Kelsey Dodds 158-206=364, Diana Budde 124-195=319, Elly Fieker 167-137=304, Erica Paulson 161-136=297, Skyler Mangier 128-139=267, Nicole Furne 123-138=261.
