Maquoketa boys bowlers edge Marion

MAQUOKETA – Brandan Bradley rolled a 409 series to lead the Marion boys bowling team in a 2,781 to 2,685 loss to Maquoketa on Friday at Timber Lanes.

Isaac Andreson and Dalton Waugh each had a 418 series for Maquoketa,

Maquoketa (2,781): Isaac Andreson 183-235=418, Dalton Waugh 214-204=418, Conner Schnoor 181-192=373, Thomas Clark 177-191=368, Luke Brame 169-177=346,Zach Lanning 146-155=301.

Marion girls start slow in loss to CPU

The Marion girls basketball team fell behind 18-8 after the first quarter and lost 48-43 to Center Point-Urbana on Friday at Marion.

Amanda Sahm had 16 points for the Indians (10-4), and Chloe Rice added 14 points.

Allie Wooldridge had 18 points for the Stormin’ Pointers (10-4) and Arika Wooldridge had 14.

Marion splits Wamac wrestling meets

DEWITT - Caleb Conway and Colin Conway had two pins Thursday night as the Marion Indians  split their Wamac Conference wrestling meets in DeWitt.

The Indians nipped Anamosa, 39-37, and lost to Vinton-Shellsburg, 51-15.

Caleb Conway got his two pins in 3:33 and 3:03 at 145 pounds. Colin Conway got his two pins in 43 seconds and 1:36 at 152.

Smith sinks 7 3s as Marion girls win

INDEPENDENCE – Caitlyn Smith had 23 points – including seven 3-point goals – to lead the Marion girls basketball team to a 57-40 win at Independence.

The Indians (10-3) led 22-20 at halftime, but pulled away with a 24-8 run in the third quarter.

Michayla Mohr added 16 points for Marion.

Tristan Ludwig had 12 points for Independence (5-6).

Marion boys start strong in win

The Marion boys basketball team led 14-4 after the first quarter and 29-9 at halftime in a 57-40 win over Independence on Tuesday in Marion.

Craig Engle had 12 points for the Indians (8-3), and Deshaun Quinn had 10 points.

Jay Wieland and Nick Steger each had seven points for Independence (1-10).
