Marion rolls over Vinton-Shellsburg

Jacob Manderscheid had 11 points and Devin Quinn had 10 as eight players scored in the Marion boys basketball team’s 52-32 win over Vinton-Shellsburg on Friday at Marion.

The game was tied 8-8 after the first quarter, but the Indians (5-2) took control with a 17-3 run in the second quarter.

Derek Dinderman and Sean Noeller each had eight points for Vinton-Shellsburg (1-6).

Laube’s 19 leads Indians

VINTON – Mia Laube had 19 points to lead the Marion girls basketball team in a 53-33 win over Vinton-Shellsburg on Friday.

Michalyn Mohr added 12 points, and Amanda Sahm had 10 for the Indians, who improved to 6-3.

Maci Griffith had 20 points to lead Vinton-Shellsburg (0-8).

Marion bowlers sweep Independence

Zach Prucha and Bre Smith had good days Thursday as the Marion Indians swept their Wamac Conference bowling meets from Independence at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Prucha rolled the high series with a 417 as Marion won the boys meet, 2849-2285. He also had the high game with a 225.

Smith bowled the high series with a 398 as Marion captured the girls meet, 2212-1979. She also had the high game with a 216.

Conway collects 2 pins for Marion

TAMA - Colin Conway had two pins for the Marion Indians at 152 pounds Thursday night in their double-dual Wamac Conference wrestling meet in Tama.

Conway pinned his opponent from South Tama in 4:30 and flattened his opponent from Clear Creek-Amana in 51 seconds.

Marion lost both meets, falling 60-18 to South Tama and 43-33 to Clear Creek-Amana.

Jack Serbousek (160) and Dalton Gardner (182) collected pins against Clear Creek-Amana. Brady Bartz (132) won a decision for the Indians.

Rice pours in 28 for Marion girls

Freshman Chloe Rice scored 28 points for the Marion Indians Tuesday night in a 58-56 setback to Clear Creek-Amana in a Wamac Conference girls basketball game at Marion.

Rice made 10 field goals, including a 3-pointer, and went 7-for-7 at the foul line. Freshman Mia Laube contributed 11 points for Marion (5-2).

Hanna Stokes topped a balanced attack for Clear Creek-Amana with 14 points. Lexi Kinnaird and Emily Wieland netted 13 points apiece for Clear Creek-Amana (3-4).

CLEAR CREEK-AMANA (58): Mougin 1 0-0 3, M. Hall 0 0-2 0, K. Hall 1 5-7 7, Stokes 5 4-10 14, Kinnaird 3 6-10 13, Wieland 5 2-4 13, Seelman 3 2-4 8. Totals 18 19-35 58.
