Chloe Rice scored 17 points to the Marion girls basketball team to a 49-38 win over Maquoketa at Marion.

Michayin Mohr added 13 points for the Indians, who improved to 2-1.

Claire Sybesma also had 17 points for Maquoketa (1-2).

Washington wrestlers beat Marion, fall to Mount Vernon

The Washington wrestling team split a double dual, beating Marion 39-27 and losing to Mount Vernon 76-0 Tuesday at Washington.

Logan Sears (132 pounds), Jordan Henderson (145), Matt Ackerman (170) and Patrick Reirden (285) had pins for the Warriors against the Indians.

Marion’s Preston Murphy had a pin at 195 pounds against Washington.

Manderscheid scores 13 in Marion loss

Jacob Manderscheid scored 13 points to lead the Marion boys basketball team in a season-opening 64-39 loss to Western Dubuque on Tuesday at Marion,

After a 12-12 first period, Western Dubuque pulled away with a 21-10 run in the second period.

Spencer Haldeman led Western Dubuque with 25 points.

Bre Smith nets 357 for Marion girls

Bre Smith bowled a 357 series with games of 154 and 203 Tuesday for Marion in a Wamac Conference meet against Western Dubuque at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Kayla Horsfield of Western Dubuque took top honors with a 396 series, leading the Bobcats to a 2594-1986 victory.

Zach Prucha rolled a 456 series with games of 242 and 214 for the Marion Indians Tuesday in their Wamac Conference meet against Western Dubuque at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Western Dubuque got a strong 515 series from Blake Nadermann and won the meet, 3183-2715.
