Machula takes 2nd at MVC golf

Emily Machula of Cedar Rapids Prairie shot a 15-over-par 78 Tuesday to finish second at the MVC Mississippi Division golf meet at Airport National.

Sarah Overton of Iowa City High won Tuesday's meet with a 73 and was crowned the 36-hole champion at 149. Overton placed fifth in the composite standings.

Amy Olberding shot an 80 for the Xavier Saints Tuesday. Brett Visser and Mady Goodwin had 83's for Washington.

Schebler hits 6th homer for Oklahoma

Cedar Rapids Prairie graduate Scott Schebler belted his sixth home run for Oklahoma City in a 6-1 victory over Omaha Saturday.

The Metro Sports Report provides daily updates on all the Metro graduates in pro baseball. Here is the updated report through Saturday:

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Oklahoma City, OF, Triple-A, Pacific Coast League (Dodgers): Schebler went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer for Oklahoma City. He hit eighth in the lineup and played right field. Schebler is batting .225 (20-for-89) with four doubles, six homers and 13 RBIs.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Fort Myers, OF, High-A, Florida State League (Twins): Christensen went 1-for-4 with a walk Saturday in a 3-2 victory over Jupiter in 10 innings. He hit sixth in the lineup and played right field. Christensen is batting .250 (24-for-96) with four doubles, one homer and eight RBIs.

JON KELLER (CR Xavier), Frederick, P, High-A, Carolina League (Orioles): Keller did not pitch Saturday in a 4-0 victory over Potomac. He has a 1-2 record, 4.66 ERA and one save.

 

Prairie girls blanked by No. 6 Hempstead

DUBUQUE - The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls soccer team was shut out by No. 6 Dubuque Hempstead, 3-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Dubuque Friday.

Prairie fell to 6-3.

Abby Harbin, Holly Bitter and Mariah Morris scored for Hempstead.

   

Prairie girls net victory over Tigers

The Prairie Hawks swept all the singles matches Friday and trumped Cedar Falls, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls tennis meet at Prairie.

Vale Caro defeated Becky Hughes, 10-3, at No. 1 singles. Magui Caro, Karleigh Schilling, Shannon Costigan, Anna Postnikov and Michelle Grenn also won their singles matches for Prairie.

Prairie girls second at divisional meet

IOWA CITY – Prairie’s Hannah Frazee was a double winner, taking the 1500 and 3000-meter runs, leading the Hawks to a second-place finish at the MVC Mississippi Divisional meet Thursday night at Bates Field.

Host City High, led by divisional athlete of the year Sarah Plock, won the team title with 137 points. Prairie finished with 114 points. Washington was fourth with 79 points.

Prairie other event wins came in the shuttle hurdle and sprint medley relays.

Washington’s Amara Taylor was a double winner. She took top honors in the 100 and 400 hurdles. The Warriors won the 4x200 and 4x100 relays.
