No. 4 Lions boot No. 7 Hawks, 5-1

The Linn-Mar Lions became the first team to score a goal against the Prairie Hawks all season Thursday night. And when they started, they never stopped.

The fourth-ranked Lions defeated the seventh-ranked Hawks, 5-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match at Linn-Mar Stadium.

Prairie entered the game with a perfect 8-0 record and had outscored its opponents, 45-0, but Linn-Mar solved the Prairie defense with a high-powered attack.

Prairie girls boot No.2 Lions

MaKenzie Serbousek and Adelaide Bayne scored goals Thursday night as Cedar Rapids Prairie upset seventh-ranked Linn-Mar, 2-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Prairie.

Serbousek tallied with a header off a corner kick and assist by Hannah Kousheh. Bayne notched the second goal for Prairie with an assist from Cayla Renwick.

 

Hempstead beats Hawks, Lions in meet

WATERLOO - Dubuque Hempstead dominated a Mississippi Valley Conference guadrangular girls golf meet at Gates Park in Waterloo Thursday.

Hempstead finished with 165 shots, followed by Prairie (188), Linn-Mar (211) and Waterloo East (224). Tierney Dalsing of Hempstead took medalist honors with a 3-over-par 39.

Emily Machula led Prairie with a 5-over 41. Megan Murphy shot a 50 for Linn-Mar.

PRAIRIE: Emily Machula 41, Lexi Poundstone 46, Hannah Stebral 50, Kennedy Fisher 51, Grace Lindgren 54, Peyton Staab 60.

LINN-MAR: Megan Murphy 50, Kristen Harding 53, Danielle Gerlach 53, Alexa Mindrup 55, Hannah Westfall 59, Allie Cahill 66.

   

Prairie girls net easy 9-0 victory

The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls tennis team lost only one game all day and whipped Waterloo East, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Prairie.

Karleigh Schilling blanked Olivia Saunders-Hubert, 10-0, at No. 1 singles.

Waterloo East forfeited the matches at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Rima sizzles as Prairie wins title

TAMA - Jalen Rima posted the fastest time in the state in the 400-meter dash Tuesday night as Cedar Rapids Prairie won the championship at the South Tama Invitational.

Rima was clocked in 49.20 seconds to move to the top of the charts.

Prairie finished with 107.5 points in the 13-team meet, edging Pella by 5.5 points in the standings.

Tysen VanDraska won two distance events for the Hawks. He captured the 800 in 2:00.59 and claimed the 3200 in 9:55.72. Keagan Pinter took the 110 hurdles in 14.92 seconds.

Trevor Northrup placed second in the 100 meter dash in 11.09. The Hawks also finished second in the 4x100 relay (44.27), the 1600 sprint medley (3:43.45) and the shuttle hurdle relay (1:03.30). Pinter was third in the 200 (23.25).
