9 entering Washington Hall of Fame

Cedar Rapids Washington will induct nine new members into the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame Friday.

Mike Sandy, Kevin Puk, Evonne Butikofer, David Kummer, Maurice Cantrell, BJ Kolsrud, Barney O'Donnell, Hunter Kennedy and Rich Struve will be honored at a program that begins at 4:30 in the Washington cafeteria. They will be introduced between games of Washington's basketball doubleheader against Kennedy Friday night.

Sandy (1967) was a two-time state champion in swimming and helped the Warriors win three state team championships.

Puk (1988) was an all-state football player and the Defensive MVP of the 1988 Shrine Bowl. He also participated in basketball and track at Washington and played football at Stanford.

Butikofer (1999) earned 15 varsity letters at Washington in softball, volleyball, basketball and track. She was a member of the rowing team at the University of Iowa.

Kummer (2003) was an all-state basketball player for the Warriors. He earned eight varsity letters in basketball and track.

Cantrell (2004) was an all-state football player at Washington. He also participated in track and wrestling for the Warriors and played college football at Colorado.

Kolsrud (2006) was a two-time state champion for the Washington swimming team. He also was an eight-time runner-up and a seven-time All-American. He swam at Stanford.

O'Donnell (2007) won 12 varsity letters in tennis, football, baseball, track and basketball. He was all-state in baseball and football and a multiple state runner-up in tennis.

Kennedy (2008) starred in soccer at Washington and was the 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year in Iowa. He played soccer at Drake.

Struve (1977) is being inducted into the Hall of Fame as a medical volunteer. He has provided medical coverage for numerous Washington teams and activities over the years.
