No. 5 Warriors roll by Ottumwa, 53-7

OTTUMWA - The fifth-ranked Washington Warriors enjoyed a stroll past the Ottumwa Bulldogs, 53-7, in a Class 4A district game Friday at Schafer Stadium in Ottumwa.

Isaiah Nimmers caught three touchdown passes and the Warriors held Ottumwa to just 85 yards in total offense.

Nimmers scored all three of his touchdowns in the third quarter on a 54-yard pass from Drew Dostal, a 23-yard pass from TJ Vogel and a 39-yard strike from Dostal. Nimmers snared six passes for 149 yards in the contest.

Wash golfers win on super-tiebreaker

WATERLOO - Alex Slattery shared medalist honors with a 36 Thursday to help the Washington Warriors win a Mississippi Valley Conference quadrangular meet at the Irv Warren course in Waterloo, but the victory went much deeper than that.

Washington and Cedar Falls tied for first place with team scores of 148 for their top four golfers, which is the normal system for determining a high school meet. They went to the first tiebreaker, but the fifth-place golfer for both teams both shot 39s. Then they looked at the sixth-place finisher for both squads and declared Washington the winner on the basis of a 40 by Logan Bracey, compared to a 41 for Cedar Falls.

Frank Lindwall and Joe Slattery fired 37s for the Warriors. Connor Neighbors had a 38.

VanDraska wins top prize at Muscatine

MUSCATINE - Tysen VanDraska claimed first place at the Muscatine Invitational cross country meet Tuesday and nearly led Cedar Rapids Prairie to the title.

Pleasant Valley and Prairie both finished with 40 points for their top-five runners, but Pleasant Valley won the tiebreaker on the basis of its sixth-place finisher.

VanDraska won the 5K race in 15 minutes, 56.5 seconds. Karson Sommer of Pleasant Valley placed second in 16:02.

Prairie had four runners in the top seven. Jake Moore was fifth, Cam Steffens sixth and Chris Oehlert seventh.

Reagan Gorman of Cedar Rapids Washington finished fourth in the girls race in 18:59.2. Maddie Bach of Marion placed fifth in 19:14.2.

Havertape, Harris help Wash sink Jeff

Lauren Havertape and Alyssa Harris were triple-winners Tuesday night as the Washington Warriors dunked Jefferson, 125-61, in a Mississippi Valley Conference swim meet at Washington.

Havertape won the 200 IM and swam on two triumphant relays. Harris took the 500 free and swam on two winning relays.

Emily Nelson, Delaney Thoma and Jenny Hughes were double-winners for the Warriors.

Jefferson got victories from Mika McChesney (50 free), Josie Thompson (100 fly) and Taylor Langel (100 free).

Saints sweep Warriors in volleyball

Jess Callahan collected 40 assists Tuesday night as the Xavier Saints swept Washington, 25-13, 25-19, 25-21, in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match at Washington.

Charlotte Richards contributed 14 kills for the Saints. Ellie McDermott had 11 kills and five aces. Lexi Noonan contributed nine kills.

Callahan had eight digs and Anna Parr had seven.
