Wensel sizzles in 400 for Linn-Mar

IOWA CITY - Linn-Mar freshman Payton Wensel ran the fastest time in the state this year in the 400 meter dash Thursday when she won the event in 56.25 seconds at the Iowa City West Invitational.

Wensel broke the Linn-Mar school record in the 400. She also ran the anchor leg on the triumphant 800 sprint medley with another swift 400.

The Jefferson J-Hawks won six events and Linn-Mar captured five events.

Jefferson's winners were Jasmine Blue in the 100 (12.44), Lucy Schneekloth in the 200 (25.73) and Abbie Ranschau in the 100 hurdles (15.10). Blue, Schneekloth and Ranschau joined Morgan Meese on the victorious 4x100 relay (48.66).

Wash boys sweep Xavier in tennis

The Washington Warriors won all nine matches in straight sets Thursday and blanked Xavier, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys tennis meet at Xavier.

Jackson Hoyt topped Ben Curley, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

Parker Muller, Oliver Hammond, Dane Van Antwerp, Will Rizer and Jack Parmley also won the their singles matches for the Warriors.

Washington girls net win over Saints

Hannah Sherman, Kelly King, Jennifer Greif, Eliza Sundermann and Laura Gibson won their singles matches Thursday as Washington topped Xavier, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Washington.

Allison Jasper of Xavier defeated Lilly Hartman, 10-5, at No. 1 singles.

No.1 Linn-Mar boys slam Warriors

Tim Paulson of Linn-Mar defeated Jackson Hoyt, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles Thursday as the top-ranked Lions knocked off fifth-ranked Washington 8-1 in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Linn-Mar.

The Lions remained unbeaten for the season and handed the Warriors their first loss.

Trevor McCann, Ben Myers, Shane Skvor, Kyle Brendes and Lucas Huffman also won their singles matches for Linn-Mar.

Lilly Hartman of Washington defeated Nicole Glanz at No. 1 singles, 10-3, as the Warriors blanked Linn-Mar 9-0 in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Washington Wednesday.

Hannah Sherman, Kelly King, Jennifer Greif, Eliza Sundermann and Laura Gibson also won their singles matches for Washington.
