J-Hawks turn in 4 state-best efforts

The Jefferson J-Hawks took advantage of the good weather Saturday and posted four state-best efforts at the Kennedy coed track meet at Kingston Stadium.

Jasmine Blue took over the No. 1 spot in the 100 meter dash at 12.22 seconds and Abbie Ranschau moved to the top of the chart in the 100 hurdles in 14.87 seconds to help the Jefferson girls win the team championship by 50 points.

The Jefferson girls also lowered their own state-best mark in the 4x100 relay to 48.38 seconds with Lucy Schneekloth, Ranschau, Morgan Meese and Blue sharing the baton.

Merje' Bokoyo from the Jefferson boys track team was clocked in 10.86 seconds in the 100 meter dash, matching the best time in the state this year.

O'Donnell will play at Mount Mercy

Kandis O'Donnell of Cedar Rapids Washington plans to stay in town and play college basketball at Mount Mercy University.

O'Donnell, a 5-foot-11 forward, averaged 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds for Washington this season. She helped the Warriors compile a 13-9 record.

O'Donnell was named first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference and first team all-Metro. She will be joining Washington grad Abby Herb with the Mustangs.

 

Washington boys kick No. 8 Trojans

The Washington boys soccer team knocked off eighth-ranked Iowa City West, 2-1, in a PK Shootout Thursday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Kingston Stadium.

The Warriors outscored the Trojans 4-2 in the Shootout. Gunnar Lenzen scored for the Warriors in the Shootout and also made two saves in goal. Andrew Hammer, Connor Geuder and Arani Niyakiza also connected for Washington in the Shootout.

Geuder scored Washington's only goal in regulation.

Iowa City West is the defending Class 3A state champion.

Washington boys blank Davenport Central

Augie Bergstrom scored the only goal Tuesday night as the Cedar Rapids Washington boys soccer team blanked Davenport Central, 1-0, in a non-conference match at Kingston Stadium.

Brian Holt collected the assist on Bergstrom's game-winner.

 

No.3 Linn-Mar kickers finish 1-1

MUSCATINE - The third-ranked Linn-Mar boys soccer team split its two matches at the Muscatine Invitational Saturday.

The Lions lost to No. 4 Iowa City High, 2-1, on penalty kicks. Jack Ramsey scored the only goal in regulation for Linn-Mar on an assist from Ben Johnson.

Linn-Mar rebounded with a 2-0 victory over 10th-ranked Pleasant Valley. Alexy Boehm and Leroy Enzugusi scored for the Lions. Ramsey and Danny Peak collected assists. Cody Ritter posted the shutout in goal.

The eighth-ranked Washington Warriors dropped both of their matches at the tournament. The Warriors were blanked by 15th-ranked Dowling, 2-0 and lost to Muscatine, 1-0, on penalty kicks.
