Kayla Torson of Xavier is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.
Torson, a 5-foot-11 senior, is one of the top volleyball players in the state and she's been a fixture for the Saints the past four years.
Torson owns the Xavier High School records with 1,230 kills and 917 digs during her career. She has never missed a set, playing in 380 straight games, and has helped the Saints compile a 91-57 record since the 2011 campaign.
Torson, an outside hitter with tremendous leaping ability, has been named to all-state teams by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. She has committed to play college volleyball at Nebraska-Omaha.
Xavier plays Clear Creek-Amana in the Class 4A regional finals Tuesday night in Marengo, with the winner advancing to the state tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center.
