The seventh-ranked Linn-Mar Lions swept a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader from Xavier, 8-5 in eight innings and 7-4, at Ken Charipar Field on Friday night at Xavier.
The sweep lifted the Lions to 12-4 for the season. Xavier fell to 7-12.
The first game was tied, 3-3, after seven innings. Linn-Mar erupted for five runs in the top of the eighth, then withstood a two-run rally by the Saints in the bottom of the eighth.
Andrew Gassmann went 4-for-5 with two RBIs for Linn-Mar in the opener. Manny Jeffery was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Ryan Wyant and Sam Crawford also had two hits.
Bryce Schulte, Connor Powers and Nick Stark had two hits for Xavier in the first game. Schulte and Powers drove in two runs.
Taylor Yoke went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Linn-Mar in the nightcap. Adam Stolley, Brandt Ollinger and Wyant had two hits. Wyant scored three times. Austin McCulloh had two RBIs.
Crawford got the victory with four strong innings in relief in Game 2. He struck out eight batters and did not allow a hit.
Nolan Arp had two hits for Xavier in Game 2. Sean Murphy scored two runs.
