Lions, Hawks gain in boys soccer poll

The Linn-Mar Lions and Prairie Hawks both climbed one spot in the Class 3A boys soccer rankings Tuesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Linn-Mar jumped into the No. 4 spot in the poll and Prairie climbed into the No. 6 position. The Kennedy Cougars dropped two positions to 13th.

The Xavier Saints stayed No. 2 in the Class 2A rankings.

Xavier girls roll into regional finals

CAMANCHE - The Xavier girls tennis team won two matches at the Class 1A regional tournament in Camanche Saturday and will play for the regional title next Saturday.

The Saints blanked Maquoketa, 5-0, in the opening round and clipped Davenport Assumption, 5-2, in the regional semifinals.

Allison Jasper collected two impressive victories at No. 1 singles for the Saints. Claire Bouchard, Katie Neumeyer and Megan D'mello also won both of their singles matches for Xavier.

The Saints will face Pella in the regional finals next Saturday at 9 a.m. at the University of Iowa Tennis Center.

Jones lifts Xavier by Kennedy

Stephen Jones scored an unassisted goal Saturday as the Xavier Saints blanked Kennedy, 1-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Heco Field.

Jordan Even collected a shutout in goal for the Saints.

Xavier, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A, raised its records to 10-2 overall and 9-2 in the MVC. Kennedy, ranked No. 11 in Class 3A, fell to 7-7 overall and 5-6 in the league.

   

Xavier boys net substate opener

The Xavier Saints blanked Grinnell, 5-0, in the opening round of the boys Class 1A substate tennis tournament at Xavier Saturday.

Ben Curley cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles against Edward Lopatto.

Jon Lansing, Charlie Esker, Alex Hinrichs and Blake Magill also won their singles matches in straight sets for the Saints.

Xavier advances to the next round of the substate tournament May 23.

IOWA CITY - The Xavier girls tennis team was shut out by Iowa City High, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet in Iowa City Friday.

Eve Small defeated Allison Jasper, 10-0, at No. 1 singles.
