Xavier High School - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Even will join Kirkwood golf team

Jordan Even of Xavier High School will continue his golf career at Kirkwood Community College.

Even played in the 2012 and 2013 state tournaments for the Saints. He was named first team all-Metro and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference in 2014.

Even had a stroke average of 38.93 for nine holes last season.

 

Lions fall to 7th in soccer poll

Thursday's 2-1 loss to Kennedy cost Linn-Mar six spots in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union girls soccer rankings released Friday.

The Lions (4-1) fell from first to seventh in the 3A ratings, one spot behind the Cougars (4-2).

Xavier (2-3) remained fourth in Class 2A.

No.2 Saints clipped by No.2 Little Hawks

The Xavier Saints lost to Iowa City High, 2-1, in overtime in a battle of second-ranked boys soccer teams at Xavier Thursday afternoon.

Xavier is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A and City High is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A.

Adam Nicholson gave Iowa City a 1-0 lead in the first half. Camden Stovie scored for Xavier midway through the second half for a 1-1 tie.

Nicholson scored again in overtime to give the Little Hawks the victory and hand Xavier its first loss of the season.

   

Xavier girls clip City in OT

IOWA CITY - Lizzie Bailey scored off a corner from teammate Katie Ives, lifting Class 2A No. 2 Xavier to a 1-0 overtime win over Class 3A No. 2 Iowa City High.

City High had 10 shots on goal, but Saints goaltender Melody Snow was able to keep the Little Hawks off the scoreboard.

Bailey's game-winner deflected in off a City High defender into the corner of the net.

Xavier boys get past Camanche

The Xavier boys tennis team won the close matches and it proved to be the difference as the Saints downed visiting Camanche, 6-3, on Thursday.

Jon Lansing, Charlie Esker and the doubles team of Esker and Jack VonKampen all came through with wins after splitting the first two sets.
