Blood rolls 430 series for Prairie

Rylee Blood rolled a 430 series for the Prairie Hawks Thursday in a 2698 to 2221 victory over the Xavier Saints in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls bowling meet at Lancer Lanes.

Blood had games of 236 and 194 for Prairie.

Kayla Thompson led Xavier with a 351 series.

Saints trim Hawks in hot bowling meet

The Xavier Saints trimmed Prairie in a hotly contested boys bowling meet at Lancer Lanes Thursday, 3013 to 2919.

There were several impressive performances on both sides with seven series of 400 or more.

Walker Hunt of Prairie captured individual honors with a high game of 276 and a high series of 454. Matt Galloro rolled a 410 series for Prairie and Sawyer Hansen had a 402 for the Hawks.

The Saints prevailed with four series of 400 or more. Brett Young led the way with a 438, with Caleb Miller a pin behind at 437. Jacob Fulton bowled a 401 series and Cameron Zaugg contributed a 400.

Lions, Saints climb in girls rankings

The Linn-Mar Lions jumped three spots to fifth in the Class 5A girls basketball rankings Thursday by the IGHSAU.

The Xavier Saints also climbed three spots to 11th in the Class 4A poll.

Linn-Mar has gotten off to a 7-1 start this season under new coach Jaime Printy Brandt. Xavier has gotten off to a 7-3 start under veteran coach Tom Lilly.

West Des Moines Valley is ranked No. 1 in Class 5A. Harlan is the top-ranked club in Class 4A. The other top-ranked teams are Pocahontas in Class 3A, Western Christian in 2A and Burlington Notre Dame in 1A.

Bailey’s 18 lead Saints

Lizzy Bailey scored 18 points to lead the Class 4A 14th-ranked Xavier girls basketball team to 55-42 win over Prairie on Tuesday at Prairie.

The Saints improved to 8-3, while the Prairie Hawks fell to 0-9.

Prairie ends skid against Xavier

JoJo Simpson scored 17 points as the Prairie boys basketball team ended a four-game losing streak with an 80-64 win over Xavier on Tuesday at Xavier.

Cal Clark added 15 points, Jalen Rima had 15 and Max Drahos added 10 points for the Prairie Hawks (4-4).

Michael Mims led all scorers with 20 points for the Saints (3-4), and Mitchell Burger added 13 points.
