Drahozal, Ickes pace Xavier wrestlers

IOWA CITY - Nick Drahozal and Sean Ickes had perfect days for the Xavier wrestling team Saturday at the Clyde Bean Duals in Iowa City.

Drahozal went 4-0 at 145 pounds with two pins, a major decision and a regular decision. Ickes finished 4-0 at 170 pounds with two pins, a decision and a forfeit.

Xavier finished with a 1-3 record in the tournament. The Saints defeated Iowa City High (45-24), but lost to Lisbon (44-27), Keokuk (36-34) and Decorah (37-36) in tight matches.

TEAM STANDINGS
1. Lisbon 3-1, 2. Decorah 3-1, 3. Keokuk 3-1, 4. Xavier 1-3, 5. Iowa City High 0-4.

 

Sommer girls help Lions spank Saints

Linn-Mar’s wonder twins were reunited Friday night after being apart for three-plus games.

Senior guard Kristie Sommer suffered a head and neck injury in a Jan. 10 loss to Cedar Falls and missed the next three games.

She returned Friday night and combined with twin sister Katie to score 35 points in the Lions’ 48-24 Mississippi Valley Conference win over Xavier on “PINK OUT” night at Linn-Mar that saw the hosts decked out in pink uniforms.

Linn-Mar boys shut down Saints, 59-35

The Xavier Saints have some good weapons on offense with Adam McDermott, Calvin Winker and big Matt Nelson, but not Friday night.

Not against Linn-Mar.

The Lions threw a tight leash on Xavier and held the Saints to their lowest output of the season in a 59-35 ballgame at Xavier.

Linn-Mar girls bowl over Saints

Brooke McMorran fired a 436 series and Kayla Johnson a 413 to power Linn-Mar past Xavier, 2605-1864, Friday in girls bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

McMorran shot games of 225 and 211. Johnson had a high game of 216.

Katie O'Brien shot high series for the Saints with a 293.

Linn-Mar keglers hand Saints 1st loss

The Linn-Mar boys handed Xavier its first loss of the season Friday, 3248-3141, in a bowling match at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

The Lions posted their season high.

Raymond Glueck led the Lions with a 479 series and a 277 game.

Linn-Mar led by 57 pins after the first round, but Xavier made a run at the Lions with a 279 Baker game.
