Jacob Olson sparks J-Hawks by No. 10 Saints

Taylor Olson's little brother is all grown up.

Jacob Olson poured in 22 points Tuesday night and made several clutch plays as Jefferson defeated 10th-ranked Xavier, 64-55, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Jefferson.

Taylor Olson, now a freshman at Kirkwood Community College, was an all-state guard for the J-Hawks last season when he averaged 18.4 points and led Jefferson to the Class 4A state tournament for the third straight year.

Jacob Olson, Taylor's kid brother, averaged just 1.4 points for the J-Hawks last year as a sophomore, but there's no stopping him now at 19.4 points per outing.

Marion hands J-Hawk boys 1st loss

Jefferson's second trip to Marion in as many nights didn't go quite as well as its first one.

The J-Hawks ended a nine-season drought against Linn-Mar on Friday night, but couldn't solve Marion's mighty mites on Saturday.

Marion handed the J-Hawks their first loss of the season, 61-47, in a non-conference boys basketball game at Marion High School.

It's been a long time since the Jefferson J-Hawks defeated the Linn-Mar Lions in a boys basketball game.

"Yeah, it was 1896," Jefferson Coach Stu Ordman quipped before the teams tangled Friday night at the Linn-Mar gym.

It wasn't quite that long, but it may have seemed that way to J-Hawk fans.

The drought is over.

Jefferson defeated Linn-Mar for the first time in nine seasons with a tense 46-44 verdict in a Mississippi Valley Conference game.

J-Hawks clamp down on Clinton, 62-41

In their season debut at home Tuesday night, the Jefferson boys missed enough bunnies under the basket to shame even Elmer Fudd.

But they made up for it by hawking enough balls out of the Clinton River Kings’ hands to coast to an easy 62-41 win.

“We have to get better at finishing on offense,” said J-Hawk Coach Stu Ordman.

On the other hand, he pointed out, “I think our pressure on defense really bothered them.”
