J-Hawks stroll in Hall of Pride exhibition

The Jefferson J-Hawks enjoyed playing with All-American Jarrod Uthoff on the team last season, but they might enjoy playing just as much without him this year.

Maybe more.

Taylor Olson poured in 26 points, Alec Saunders netted 23 and Ky Kramer added 16 as Jefferson rolled past West Branch, 81-41, in a Hall of Pride scrimmage at Jefferson Friday night.

The J-Hawks are a different team without Uthoff, who was named Mr. Basketball in Iowa last season, but they might surprise people with a quicker, balanced and more aggressive brand of basketball.

J-Hawks ready to release their mosquitoes

Stu Ordman jokingly refers to his basketball players at Cedar Rapids Jefferson as little mosquitoes.

The J-Hawks are not insulted by the nickname. In fact, the players designed a poster this year that declares "It's not how big you are, it's how big you play."

Yes, Jarrod Uthoff is gone.

Jefferson has turned the page in its basketball program from featuring a 6-foot-8 prep All-American to featuring a collection of perimeter players who range from 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-3, with a few exceptions.
