J-Hawks beaten by Davenport Central

Davenport Central hit two home runs Wednesday night and defeated the Jefferson J-Hawks, 11-6, in a prep baseball game at the Jefferson diamond.

Marcus Colbert went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs for the J-Hawks. Jared Eivins scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Zack Szalo and Harry Jestel hit homers for Davenport Central.

Jefferson committed seven errors.

J-Hawks top Solon in 12 innings

SOLON - The Jefferson J-Hawks scored an unearned run in the top of the 12th inning Thursday night and trimmed Solon, 3-2, in a marathon high school baseball game in Solon.

Jefferson pitchers Connor VanScoyoc, Michael Neuberger and Colton Knox allowed only five hits in the ballgame. Solon pitchers Mitch Silberstein and Luke Ira struck out 14 batters and allowed only six hits.

Cam Frazier had two hits for Jefferson (3-1).

Utley earns top honor on IIAC team

Cedar Rapids Prairie grad D.J. Utley has been named the Position Player of the Year on the Iowa Conference all-star baseball team.

Utley, a junior first baseman for the Wartburg Knights, hit .407 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs this season. He led all conference players in on-base percentage and home runs, ranked second in batting average and slugging percentage, third in doubles and total bases, fourth in RBIs and seventh in hits.

AJ Reuter of Coe was named to the first team at first base. Pitcher Connor Alberhasky and shortstop Craig Konrardy of Coe were selected to the second team. Michael Redmond, a Linn-Mar grad, received Honorable Mention for the Kohawks as an outfielder.

Ben Rettenmeier, a Jefferson grad, was named as a first-team pitcher for Wartburg.

J-Hawks lead early, fall late

IOWA CITY - Jefferson built an early lead, but No.2 Iowa City West came back to claim a 4-2 win Friday night in a Class 4A substate quarterfinal baseball game at West.

The Trojans (33-7) advance to Wednesday's substate final. They will host either Kennedy or Linn-Mar.

Run-scoring singles by Lucas Larson and Ky Kramer in the second and third innings, respectively, gave Jefferson a 2-0 lead.

Eivins' hit lifts J-Hawks past Marion, 8-7

Jared Eivins' two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Jefferson past Marion, 8-7, Tuesday night in a non-conference baseball game at the J-Hawk diamond.

Jefferson (12-27) won the game despite committing seven errors.

The J-Hawks play at Iowa City West (31-7) in the Class 4A substate tournament quarterfinals Friday night at 7.

Marion (18-18) plays Davenport Assumption in the Class 3A district semifinals Friday at Solon at 5 p.m.
