ST. LOUIS - The 12th-ranked Coe softball team defeated two ranked teams at the Washington University Tournament on a chilly day in St. Louis Sunday.
The Kohawks scored in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 3-3 tie and trim No. 19 Washington University, 4-3, in their first game.
The Kohawks had more late-game magic in their second contest, scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 deadline and beat No. 17 Augustana (Ill.), 3-2, in extra innings.
Maddison Woodruff (9-0) picked up the victories in both games for Coe. She pitched a complete game in the first contest, then tossed the final three innings in relief in the second game.
Danielle Schlotterbeck went 2-for-3 with two RBIs against Washington. Taylor Riedl was 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Woodruff pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts.
Nicole Gentile was 3-for-3 in the second game. Maliah Fligg was 2-for-3. Aaran Weeces pitched the first five innings, then Woodruff relieved and alllowed only one hit in the final three frames.
Coe raised its record to 13-2.
