PELLA - The Coe softball team split an Iowa Conference doubleheader with Central College in Pella Tuesday to retain a one-game league in the league standings.
Coe won the first game, 5-3.
Central took the nightcap, 2-1, on a walk-off home run by Katie Canney in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The split left the ninth-ranked Kohawks with a 9-3 record in the Iowa Conference. Central, Luther, Dubuque and Simpson are all tied for second place at 8-4.
Coe can win the regular-season title by sweeping a doubleheader from Wartburg (1-11) this Saturday at Coe in the final games of the regular season.
Brianna Gardner drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh inning of the first game Tuesday to snap a 3-3 tie and give Coe a 4-3 advantage. An insurance run scored on an error.
Nicole Gentile went 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Kohawks in Game 1. Emily Grell was 3-for-4 with a double. Maddison Woodruff (18-2) was the winning pitcher.
Arran Weeces (11-3) was the hard-luck loser for Coe in the nightcap.
