Josh Evans and the Linn-Mar Lions captured the team championship at the Class 4A state track meet in Des Moines last year.

Now they'd like to do it again.

Evans gives Linn-Mar a major threat in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs and he anchors the distance medley, which is seeded No.1 for the state meet. That gives the Lions a solid base, but they are strong in other events as well.

Curtis McCrary is seeded No.1 in the long jump and both of the 4x100 and 4x200 relays are seeded No.2. Daniel Murphy is seeded No.3 in the 1600 and No.7 in the 3200, doubling with Evans in those events. Tanner Rathje is seeded No.8 in the 800 and the 4x400 relay is also eighth.

 

Linn-Mar suffered a setback this spring when Perrion Scott, one of the top sprinters in the state, was declared academically ineligible. He played a major role for the Lions last year when they won the state title and his absence could be costly.

 

The Kennedy Cougars made a run at the state title last year before falling back on the final day. The Cougars are strong again in the field events and relays and boast a defending state champ in Derek Jacobus in the long jump.

Willie Rhoads is seeded No.1 in the high jump and the Cougars are also seeded No.1 in the shuttle hurdle relay. Jacobus is seeded No.4 in the long jump, Drew Heitland is No.5 in the shot put, Shaun Beyer is No.6 in the high jump and Famiek Cook is No.8 in the long jump.

Kennedy is seeded No.6 in the 4x200 relay and No.7 in the 4x100 relay.

The Prairie Hawks have a talented team and feature Mitch Pritts in the 3200 and 1600, Tysen VanDraska in the 800, Michael Lamparek in the shot put and Trevor Northrup in the 100. The Hawks are seeded No.4 in the 4x400 relay.

Prairie took a hit this spring when Tristan Beyer left the squad. Beyer placed second in the 400 meter dash last year.

The Jefferson J-Hawks are seeded No.3 in the 4x200 relay and No.7 in the 4x400 relay. Nate Karlan is seeded No.9 in the 200 and No.11 in the 100.

The Washington Warriors have Landen Akers seeded No.3 in the 400 and No.10 in the 200. Royal Silver is seeded No.8 in the shot put. The 4x100 relay is seeded No.4 and the shuttle hurdle relay is seeded 10th.

The Marion Indians are seeded No.1 in the 4x800 relay in Class 3A. Quinn Cannoy is seeded No.8 in the 110 hurdles and Colton Forster is No.9 in the 3200 for Marion.

Nick Stark of Xavier is seeded No.10 in the 100 and No.13 in the long jump.
