Jefferson hammered Davenport North, 13-1, in its softball opener and outdueled Indianola, 2-0, in its nightcap to post a pair of victories Saturday in the Ken Kaness Classic at Jefferson.
The J-Hawks (5-1) pounded 18 hits in the three-inning opener.
The J-Hawks won a pitchers duel in the final game against Indianola.
Through five innings there was no score and few scattered hits. The Indians got a few hits early put were unable to put anything together off J-Hawk junior pitcher Hannah Petersen.
The Jefferson offense struggled the whole game but managed to scrap out two runs in the sixth. A single by junior Kailey Drake, a walk to Petersen and passed ball put runners at second and third with one out. Junior Kenna Fry grounded out, scoring Drake. Sophomore Maddie Koolbeck followed with an infield single that plated courtesy runner Amber Grimm with the second run. Koolbeck was 2-for-2.
