SPRINGVILLE - Shelby Hembera had another huge game for the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team Saturday, and this time it led to a big party.
Hembera poured in 41 points and grabbed 25 rebounds as the Huskies topped Waterloo Christian, 53-47, for their first victory of the season after 19 straight defeats.
"It was a big win for the parents and a big win for our girls," said Craig Foote, happy to see his team's hard work pay off in a victory.
Foote said there were 30 people at the post-game party, which lasted 2 1/2 hours.
"It was great. It was awesome," he said. "We were so thankful to get a win."
Emily Masterson played a big role in the victory with a career-high 12 points.
Hembera, who leads the state in scoring and rebounding, had four blocks, three assists and two steals. She scored a career-high 44 points Friday night in a 56-53 loss to West Central, giving her back-to-back games of more than 40.
