Fornaris lifts RoughRiders by Waterloo

WATERLOO - Carlos Fornaris scored his second goal of the game with 6:54 left in the third period Friday night to snap a 2-2 tie and give the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders a 3-2 victory over Waterloo in a USHL game before 3,299 fans at Young Arena.

Fornaris collected the game-winner on assists from Clark Kuster and Nate Widman.

Dylan McLaughlin tied the game for Cedar Rapids, 1-1, with a goal in the second period. Waterloo took a 2-1 lead, but Fornaris scored his first goal to make it 2-2 heading into the final stanza.

Danny Tirone saved 38 of 40 shots for the RoughRiders.

Cedar Rapids (26-14-2) moved into a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference with Dubuque with 54 points, although Dubuque has two games in hand. Indiana leads the conference with 62 points.

Waterloo is tied with Omaha for first place in the Western Conference with 66 points.

The RoughRiders host Dubuque Saturday night at 7:05 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in a showdown for second place.
