Kennedy Dighton of Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.
Dighton, a 6-foot-1 junior, has been a key member of the Jefferson basketball team as it bids for a winning season this year.
Dighton leads the J-Hawks at 13.5 points and more than eight rebounds per game. She has raised her game this season after averaging 11.2 points and 6.0 rebounds last year as a sophomore.
Dighton has collected four double-doubles this season, most recently when she had 27 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Washington Jan. 22. She followed that performance with a 23-point outing in a victory over Dubuque Wahlert, then had 15 points in a loss to Linn-Mar.
Dighton also had double-doubles this season against Waterloo East, Waterloo West and Iowa City West. She snared 15 rebounds against Waterloo East.
Jefferson has an 8-9 record as it seeks a winning season.
