Halvorson wins 2 for Prairie softball

Natalie Halvorson picked up the pitching wins in both games at Prairie swept past Cedar Falls, 13-1 and 11-5, in Mississippi Valley Conference softball action Tuesday at Prairie.

In the opener, Haley McFarlane went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Carsyn Waller and Anne Cervany both went 2-for-2, Cervany drove home two runs, scored twice and stole a base. Halvorson struck out four, allowing no earned runs.

Shelby Frederick was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in Game 2. Amanda Pipolo scored twice and stole three bases. Waller had two hits, two RBIs and three stolen bases. Kristin Wahlert had two hits, including a triple. She scored twice, drove home a run and stole two bases.

Day lifts Prairie by No.4 Cougars

Corbin Day delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday night as the Prairie Hawks trimmed fourth-ranked Kennedy, 6-5, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

The same two teams meet again Tuesday night at Kennedy.

Day went 3-for-3 in the ballgame, capped by his walk-off base hit.

Tyler Nunemaker had a big game for Prairie. He went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBIs. Trey Beckman was 2-for-4.

Prairie softball team wins twice

IOWA CITY - The Cedar Rapids Prairie softball team won both of its games at the Iowa City West Classic Saturday.

The Hawks blanked Muscatine, 2-0, and edged Davenport West, 7-6.

Natalie Halvorson tossed a four-hit shutout against Muscatine with nine strikeouts and no walks. Haley McFarlane belted a solo home run and Shelby Frederick was 3-for-4.

Carter hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Prairie a walk-off victory against Davenport West. She finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Neila Bell, Taylor Moenk, Amanda Pipolo and McFarlane had two hits against Davenport West. Bell socked a home run. Moenk had a double and scored two runs. Pipolo hit a triple and scored three times.

Halvorson was also the winning against Davenport West. She tossed five innings and did not allow an earned run.

The victories lifted Prairie to 7-4.

McFarlane lifts Prairie with home run

IOWA CITY - Haley McFarlane belted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift the Prairie Hawks by seventh-ranked Pleasant Valley, 3-2, at the Iowa City West Classic on Friday.

McFarlane's homer came right before the time limit ended the game after five innings.

Gabi Carter had two RBIs for Prairie. Amanda Pipolo went 2-for-2 as the Hawks raised their record to 5-4.

Natalie Halvorson pitched a complete game for the victory. She allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts.

Prairie sweeps Xavier in baseball

The surging Prairie Hawks swept a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader from Xavier on Friday, 10-3 and 10-5, at Ken Charipar Field.

The victories lifted Prairie to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the MVC. The Saints fell to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Cal Clark went 4-for-5 for the Hawks with a triple and two RBIs in the first game. Corbin Day was 3-for-4 with a double. Nic Mougin went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Trey Beckman and Alex Mixon had two hits.

Tyler Nunemaker, Ethan Copeland, Mougin and Day had two hits for Prairie in the nightcap. Mougin hit a triple and Day had two RBIs.

Nolan Arp had two hits for Xavier in the second game.
