Prairie girls run 2nd in Newton

NEWTON - The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls track team finished second at the Cardinal Invitational in Newton Thursday.

Hannah Frazee won the 1500 for Prairie (5:00.20) and Eilish Stanek claimed the 3000 (11:55.30). The Hawks also won the sprint medley (1;53.89).

Prairie got second-place showings from Paige Possehl in the 400 (1:03.76) and the 4x200 relay (1:47.84).

The Hawks had third-place finishes from Possehl in the 800 (2;32.13), Meghan Brune in the 3000 (12:13.80), Markquitta Soto in the shot put (37-6) and the shuttle hurdle relay (1:08.84).

Pella ran away with the title with 174 points. Prairie finished second out of 14 teams with 96.5 points.

Prairie girls net victory in Waterloo

WATERLOO - Vale Caro of Prairie rolled to a 10-1 victory over Tina Kajtazovic at No. 1 singles Thursday as the Hawks defeated Waterloo West in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet, 8-1.

Magui Caro, Karleigh Schilling, Shannon Costigan and Anna Postnikov also won their singles matches for Prairie.

No.13 Prairie boys boot J-Hawks

Steve Fritz scored both goals Thursday as the 13th-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie soccer team shut out Jefferson, 2-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at the Kingston soccer complex.

Alec Balta pitched a shutout in goal for Prairie. Seth Rinderknecht had an assist in the game.

Prairie raised its record to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Prairie boys trimmed by Waterloo West

The Cedar Rapids Prairie boys tennis team was trimmed by Waterloo West, 5-4, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet Thursday at Prairie.

Jake Crumbo, Jason Niccolls and Brandon Bruhn won their singles matches for the Hawks.

Prairie girls fall to City High

The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls tennis team lost to Iowa City High, 6-3, in a Mississippi Valley Conference  meet at Prairie Wednesday.

Eve Small of Iowa City High defeated Vale Caro at No. 1 singles, 10-4.

Michelle Grenn and Anna Postinkov won their singles matches for Prairie.
