Prairie girls fade against Little Hawks

The Prairie girls basketball trailed by just five points at halftime but couldn’t keep up in the second half as seventh-ranked Iowa City High beat the Hawks 67-46 Friday at Prairie.

Lynsey Altenhofen and Emily Rotter led Prairie (2-15) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Ashley Joens scored 20 points to lead the Little Hawks (13-4).

Prairie boys edge Washington by 44 pins

Matthew Gallaro posted a 245 game and a 449 series to lead the Prairie boys bowling team in a tight 2,946 to 2,902 win over Washington on Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Bryan Cline had a 249 game and a 431 series for the Warriors, who won the Baker round 990 to 976, but couldn’t catch the Prairie Hawks.

Prairie (2,946): Matthew Gallaro 245-204=449, Nick Moffitt 198-189=387, Zach Zimmermann 181-183=364, Lucas Gallaro 188-158=346, Walker Hunt 150-194=344, Sawyer Hanson 212-212=424.

Blood leads Prairie bowlers over Wash

Rylee Blood rolled a 420 series and Ashley Grady had a 218 game as the Prairie girls bowling team topped Washington 2,774 to 2,407 Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Shania Christensen had a 222 game and a 388 series for the Warriors.

Hempstead girls handle Prairie 51-37

DUBUQUE – The Prairie girls basketball fell to 2-14 with a 51-37 loss to Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday at Hempstead.

The Prairie Hawks trailed 22-17 at halftime, and the Mustangs pulled away with a 20-10 run in the third quarter.

Olivia Usher scored nine points for Prairie and Emily Rotter added eight.

Gabrielle Riley scored 19 points for Dubuque Hempstead (6-10).

Prairie wrestlers whip Saints, Wahawks

The Prairie wrestling team crushed the competition with a pair of dual wins Tuesday at Prairie, beating Waterloo West 84-0 and Xavier 70-4.

Xavier beat Waterloo West 66-12.

Trenten Wennermark (113 pounds), Nick Hogan (170) and Jonah Manson (220) each recorded two pins for the Prairie Hawks.

Clint Lembeck had a pin and a major decision for the Saints.
