Usher paces Prairie girls in loss

MOUNT PLEASANT – Olivia Usher scored 14 points to lead the Prairie girls basketball team in a 46-32 loss Tuesday to Mount Pleasant.

Kelli Phipps had 19 points for Mount Pleasant (9-3).

The Prairie Hawks fell to 1-12.

PRAIRIE (32): Moenk 2 1-2 5, Altenhofen 0 0-2 0, Rotter 0 2-2 2, Adams 0 0-0 0, Usher 4 4-4 14, Wagemester 2 2-2 6, Person 1 3-4 5. Totals 9 12-16 32.

MOUNT PLEASANT (46): Allender 2 0-0 5, Batey 1 3-5 6, Ita 0 6-6 6, Becker 0 5-6 5, Moffit 0 5-6 5, Phipps 9 1-1 19, Lutovsky 0 0-0 0, Johnson 0 0-0 0. Totals 12 20-24 46.

Wenger powers Prairie to Geneseo title

GENESEO, Ill. – Josh Wenger broke the Prairie wrestling team’s all-time record for wins and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the lightweights to lead the Prairie Hawks to a first-place finish Saturday at the Geneseo Invitational.

Prairie scored 186½ points to win the 18-team tournament by 31 points. Kennedy was seventh with 114.

Wenger won the 138-pound title for Prairie and now has 152 wins in his career. Sam Uthoff won the 126 title for his 100th career win.

Washington girls hold off Prairie

Frank Howell has coached richly talented basketball teams at Cedar Rapids Washington that have played for state titles and he's coached other teams that have had to scratch and fight for every victory they get.

This is one of those years where Howell is trying to coax as much out of his club as possible and the Warriors succeeded Friday night with a 53-44 victory over the Prairie Hawks at Prairie.

Blood leads Prairie girls bowlers over Kennedy

Rylee Blood had a 257 game and a 417 series to lead the Prairie girls bowling team to a 2,704 to 2,359 win over Kennedy on Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Jamie Milota had a 329 series and Kayla Sickles had a 328 to lead the Cougars.

Prairie (2,704): Rylee Blood 257-160=417, Rile Hanson 225-179=404, Mikayka Hite 178-188=366, Emily Hartgrave 162-203=365, Sabrina Keiper 157-154=311, Samantha Keiper 142-143=285.

Kennedy (2,359): Jamie Milota 193-136=329, Kayla Sickles 196-132=328, Abbie Haller 151-185=336, Katie Slota 121-168=289, Jill Zaiser 140-145=285, Morgan Stangl 136-134=270.

Svoboda leads Kennedy boys bowlers

Doug Svoboda had a two 244 games for a 488 series and led the Kennedy boys bowling team to a 3,079 to 2,697 win over Prairie on Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Matt Golloro had a 203 game and 388 series to lead the Prairie Hawks.

Kennedy (3,079): Doug Svoboda 244-244=488, Alec White 206-233=439, Aaron Smith 234-182=416, George Bert Goodwin 202-176=378, James Jambois 202-170=372, Nicholaus Green 166-178=344.
