Prairie rolls over Hempstead

DUBUQUE – Riley Hansen had a 419 series to lead the Prairie girls bowling team to a 2,568 to 2,439 win over Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday at Cherry Lanes.

Elisa Schmidt had a 365 series for Hempstead.

Prairie tumbles in Dubuque

DUBUQUE – Walker Hunt had a 416 series to lead the Prairie boys bowling team in a 3,187 to 2,738 loss to Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday at Cherry Lanes.

Cody Scheffert had a 492 series for Hempstead.

Prairie ends skid against Xavier

JoJo Simpson scored 17 points as the Prairie boys basketball team ended a four-game losing streak with an 80-64 win over Xavier on Tuesday at Xavier.

Cal Clark added 15 points, Jalen Rima had 15 and Max Drahos added 10 points for the Prairie Hawks (4-4).

Michael Mims led all scorers with 20 points for the Saints (3-4), and Mitchell Burger added 13 points.

PRAIRIE (80): Clark 3 9-10 15, Fisher 2 1-2 5, Drahos 4 1-2 10, Brown 1 0-0 2, Rima 6 2-4 14, Meeker 0 0-0 0, Boldt 3 3-3 9, Lorenz 3 0-0 8, Schrader 0 0-0 0, Simpson 8 1-3 17. Totals 30 17-24 80.

Prairie grapplers shine in Solon

SOLON - The Prairie Hawks dominated all five of their opponents Saturday and walked away with top honors at the Solon dual meet wrestling tournament.

The Hawks outscored their foes, 294-71, with lopsided victories over Dallas Center-Grimes (48-18), Keokuk (49-27), Davenport Central (69-9), Interstate 35 (72-5) and Solon (56-12).

Josh Wenger won all five of his bouts at 138 pounds with four pins and a forfeit. Marcus England went 5-0 at 106 pounds with two pins, a major decision and two forfeits.

Taylor Mehmen finished with a 4-0 record at 195 and 220 pounds with two pins, a major decision and a technical fall.

Dylan Kelinschmidt (120), Sam Uthoff (126), Nick Hogan (170) and Jarod Cadena (182) finished with 4-1 records. Kleinschmidt posted two pins and two major decisions. Uthoff had four pins. Cadena also had four pins.

Tyler Pasker went 3-0 at 195 pounds with two pins. Seth Wennermark was 3-1 at 132 pounds with three pins.

McCaffery paces IC West by Prairie

IOWA CITY - Sophomore Connor McCaffery scored 18 points Friday night as top-ranked Iowa City West spanked Cedar Rapids Prairie, 76-40, in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game in Iowa City.

Tanner Lohaus contributed 12 points for the Trojans (7-0, 4-0). Wali Parks and David DiLeo scored 11 apiece.

Jalen Rima scored 12 points for Prairie (3-4, 0-4).
