Patrick wins Metro rushing crown
Cedar Rapids Washington junior Tavian Patrick finished the season as the leading rusher in the Metro area with 1,190 yards on 146 carries.
Patrick edged Jay Kortemeyer of Xavier, who ended the year with 1,174 yards. Keagan Pinter of Prairie placed third with 1,103 yards, putting three Metro runners over the coveted 1,000-yard mark this season.
Perrion Scott of Linn-Mar finished fourth in the rushing derby with 985 yards. Tyler Dralle of Kennedy placed fifth with 915 yards.
Ryan Schmidt of Linn-Mar led all Metro quarterbacks in passing yards with 1,541. He finished his career with 3,257 yards, which ranks 10th in Metro history.
Sammy Lizarraga of Kennedy topped all Metro quarterbacks in touchdown passes with 16. Schmidt, Bryce Schulte of Xavier and Reid Snitker of Washington tied for second with 14 TD passes.
Shaun Beyer of Kennedy was the leading receiver with 35 catches for 471 yards. Trevor Noble of Linn-Mar led all the receivers with 616 yards with 25 receptions.
Schmidt topped the Metro in scoring with 21 touchdowns for 126 points. Johnny Dobbs of Washington finished second with 106 points on 17 touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions.
Sam Drysdale of Prairie and Dallas Klein of Xavier both made nine field goals this season to rank among the state leaders. Drysdale finished his career with 17 field goals, the second-most in Metro history. Ryan Persick of Xavier holds the Metro record with 23 field goals.
