Jenks wins triathlon in Mexico
MONTERREY, Mexico - Linn-Mar sophomore Stephanie Jenks won the triathlon at the American YOG Qualifier in Mexico Friday evening and qualified for a world meet in China this August.
Jenks captured the 16 and 17 age division in Monterrey, Mexico in 59 minutes and 55 seconds. The United States will be sending only the champion to China, so Jenks will be the lone USA representative in the girls 16-17 event at the meet.
Jenks topped the field Friday by excelling in the 750 meter swim, the 20 kilometer bike race and the 5K run.
Jenks will remain in Mexico this weekend and race on the Team USA Relay Sunday morning. The relay will be composed of two boys and two girls. Each athlete will do a super sprint, which is a 250 meter swim, a 5K bike race and a half-mile run.
She plans to return home Monday.
