Puk not sure he'll play for Warriors

A.J. Puk plans to begin taking classes at the University of Florida in June, casting doubt on whether the 6-foot-6 lefthander will play baseball at Cedar Rapids Washington this season.

Puk signed his national letter-of-intent with the Gators Wednesday morning during a ceremony at the high school, honoring a commitment he made to Florida last November.

Roundtree was shot and killed more than seven weeks ago. No arrests have been made and the Cedar Rapids police department will not comment on the case.

That's turned out to be good news for Coach Doug Wagemester and the Eagles.

Young made 10 of 11 shots and scored 22 points Tuesday night as Kirkwood rolled by the Grand View junior varsity, 81-56, in the home opener at Johnson Hall.

Saints hope state titles run in the family

Craig Murtha, Paul Cavin and Nick Drahozal sat in the stands in the UNI-Dome the last time the Xavier Saints played for the Class 4A football title, proudly watching their older brothers.

Daniel Vega was a little luckier than the others. He was on the sidelines that night as one of Xavier's waterboys while his brother wore the school colors.

The year was 2006 and they were in grade school when the Saints and their older brothers beat Southeast Polk, 21-6, for the state crown.
