Schulte deserved Athlete of Year award

Reggie Schulte got robbed by the football coaches in the Mississippi Valley Conference, and it happened in broad daylight.

The perpetrators should be ashamed of themselves.

Schulte is the record-setting quarterback for the Xavier Saints, who are 11-0 and ranked No. 3 in the state heading into the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs Friday night against Prairie.

Prep football prevue - Nov. 2

Prairie has avenged one loss in the playoffs.

Xavier (11-0) has been the team of destiny throughout the season, mowing through its foes by an average 35.6 points per game. Included was a 34-point rout of Prairie.

The women's basketball team at Kirkwood Community College has depth, talent, size, good shooters and an exceptionally successful head coach.

Good luck, opponents.

Coach Kim Muhl plans to put five experienced sophomores in the starting lineup when the fifth-ranked Eagles open the season Friday afternoon against Highland (Ill.) Community College at the Southeastern Classic in West Burlington.

MSR adds Kirkwood to lineup of schools

The Metro Sports Report has added Kirkwood Community College to the list of schools it covers on its sports website, the company announced Wednesday.

This is a new venture for the MSR, which was launched in January of 2011 as a website that specialized in the coverage of high school sports in Cedar Rapids and Marion. The company has always wanted to expand its coverage of local sports, however, and feels the time is right to include Kirkwood in its package.
