Pollard happy with ISU & Big 12

This past Tuesday, the Cyclones came to town to tout the past season and promote the upcoming season of Iowa State athletics. And they had plenty to shout about.

The venue also provided Cyclone fans with an up-close and personal look at some of their student-athletes and their fine coaching staff. Veterans Memorial Stadium provided a perfect backdrop for their salesmanship.

Prairie claims medley at 4A state meet

DES MOINES - First the Drake Relays, now the state meet.

This has turned out to be an exceptional year for the Cedar Rapids Prairie boys track team.

Austin Dellamuth, Jarred Edmonds, Demetrius Harper and Jacob Aune captured the distance medley at the Class 4A state meet Friday afternoon with Aune kicking it home in style on a warm afternoon.

The same quartet won the 4x400 relay at the 103rd Annual Drake Relays last month to give the Hawks two prestigious titles in two different events in less than a month.

Vocal cord ailment slows Foreman

DES MOINES - Brooke Foreman suffers from Vocal Cord Dysfunction, an ailment that makes it difficult for her to breathe when it's extremely hot or cold.

Imagine her trying to run the 400 meter hurdles at the Class 4A state meet Friday when it was a steamy 87 degrees in the middle of the afternoon.

Now imagine her trying to run the 400 hurdles in those conditions, hoping to defend her state title in the event, just 40 minutes after she ran a grueling 200 leg on the distance medley for Cedar Rapids Washington.

Marion races to 4x200 title at state meet

DES MOINES - The Marion Indians got back in the hunt at the Class 3A state track meet Friday, but it could be a hunt for second place.

The Indians claimed the 4x200 meter relay Friday morning and finished Day 2 of the three-day event with 26 points, tied with Spirit Lake Park for second place in the 3A standings. Decorah holds first place with 47 points heading into the final eight events on Saturday.

Decorah could be hard to catch, but the Indians plan to give it their best shot. "We have potential, but we have to all perform," said Lukas Mees, who hopes to score points in the 1600 meter run on Saturday.
